There are massive plans for Meta this 2025 where its products will see significant enhancements and upgrades, and one of the steps that the company is taking towards it is laying off 5 percent of its workforce. This reportedly came from Meta's CEO and founder himself, Mark Zuckerberg, who recently revealed that they will be choosing among the 'lowest' performing personnel to ax.

For now, the hunt is on for Meta to find the employees that have low performance where they will be reviewed and later be given the chop as part of their plans to expand more of their artificial intelligence developments.

Mark Zuckerberg to Layoff 5% of Meta's Low-Performing Employees

Mark Zuckerberg is among the many tech billionaires who have goals for their companies, and it was reported by Bloomberg that one of the crucial factors in achieving this is to lay off five percent of Meta's workforce to make it happen. The latest internal memo penned by Zuckerberg revealed that the company is now setting its eyes on the "lowest performers" within the company to soon be fired.

It was revealed that Meta has a total of 72,000 employees as of September 2024, with five percent of this, around 3,600 workers, possibly being removed from their posts to make way for the company's future.

However, according to Zuckerberg, it will not be a straightforward approach to remove low-performing employees, as they will be thoroughly evaluated by the company, and despite having low numbers, would not necessarily mean being laid off. That being said, Meta will give these chosen employees ample time and proper notice regarding the layoff, and they will also receive ample severance packages.

Meta On The Hunt For New Employees For AI Development

Meta is optimistic for 2025 to be another massive year for them and their AI development, but they need to make hard decisions first to make it work, and it starts with laying off a percentage of its workforce. This is a necessary move said Zuckerberg as their plans to expand more of their AI needs fresh personnel to work on its development, and they are set to fill in the roles vacated by the layoffs.

Meta's AI Developments and Expectations

Last year was massive for Meta's artificial intelligence as the company went all out to deliver 'Meta AI' to users, centering on the integrated experiences available on their social media platforms and more. At the end of Q3 2024, Meta announced that it already saw over 500 million users using the machine learning technology, with expectations that it will be the "most-used" versus its rivals.

The 'next step' for the company was their ability to deliver a dedicated chatbot, AI image and stickers generation, AI video generator, and more following the trajectory of companies like OpenAI and Google. This is because Meta plans to develop an AI-powered search engine which will be a special capability of Meta AI, and the company revealed that it has been indexing the web for eight months since October 2024.

While it may seem like Meta has already got it all, with their AI-powered search engine coming soon in the market for users to enjoy, there is still a lot for the company to work on and deliver to the public. Zuckerberg did not reveal what specific technologies the world will see from Meta this year, especially with their AI, but it will start with the sad news of layoffs affecting thousands of jobs within the company for them to achieve their goal.
