Sprint announced a new promo that allows customers to lease an iPhone 6 and an iPad mini 3 for only $100.
The deal, which lasts until April 9, is part of the wireless carrier's plan to turn its fortunes around and attract more customers away from Verizon and AT&T, the two biggest mobile carriers in the United States, by undercutting their prices.
The promo combines Sprint's existing iPhone for Life and iPad for Life leasing programs into a single bundle that saves customers the $17 they would normally pay to lease an iPad.
As with all Sprint leasing programs, the $100 deal does not require paying for any upfront costs or activation fees but is applicable only for the entry-level iPhone 6 and iPad mini 3, which both have 16GB of storage.
The $100 covers the $20 cost of leasing the iPhone 6, Sprint's $50 Simply Unlimited plan, and the $30 2GB data plan for the iPad mini 3.
Sprint also has similar deals for the 64GB and 128GB versions of the iPhone 6 and iPad mini 3 as well as all versions of the iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Air 2. However, the cost of the bundle goes up.
Under the leadership of new Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, the country's third biggest mobile carrier has been actively trying to woo new customers away from its competitors with a long, often confusing, string of promos and deals offering attractive devices for low prices. So far, Sprint's efforts have proved to be successful, as the company announced 967,000 new subscribers signed up in the last quarter of 2014, allowing it to hold on tight to its No. 3 spot as T-Mobile, Sprint's value competitor, continues to creep into Sprint's position.
"Sprint's first priority is a return to customer growth and our results during the last quarter show we are on the right track," Claure said last month. "While we still have work to do, it is clear that our aggressive actions to provide customers with the best value in wireless are gaining momentum."
As part of its Sprint's efforts is to entice iPhone users, who make up half of the country's smartphone market, by offering a first-of-its-kind iPhone leasing program that lets them lease one of Apple's latest iPhones combined with a Simply Unlimited plan starting at $70 per month during a 12 or 24-month period. Once the lease period is up, customers have the option of buying the iPhone, return the iPhone and end the program, or upgrade to the latest iPhones.
Last month, Sprint announced that it will start leasing the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the LG G3 combined with one of Sprint's qualifying plans.
