Activision's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Legacy

The critically acclaimed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is one of the franchises that redefined an era as it offered a platform for both skating and non-skating fans a chance to get their adrenaline pumping and be creative in the game. Originally released in 1999, Activision's skating franchise is best known for its second release, the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, which is widely considered as one of the best video games of all time.

Activision's last mainline title released in the franchise is 2015's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, and while it attempted to revive the series, it was widely considered a disaster.

That being said, Activision, in collaboration with Vicarious Visions, redeemed itself with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 remastered version which was released to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2020.

One of the game franchises that defined an era and made skateboarding more popular is now poised for another comeback, with Activision now having more resources after its Microsoft acquisition. However, the plans behind this rumored new THPS game remain unknown, with its upcoming 25th anniversary stirring the pot, speculators are torn between a remaster or a sequel release.
