There is now a bug on Microsoft's Recall AI feature which offers users the option to uninstall the controversial feature on their Windows experience, but the software giant claimed that this is not how it is meant to be. After being spotted by Deskmodder, Microsoft claimed that it is now working on a fix that would get rid of this option seen on Windows Features.

Alongside this fix, Microsoft is still developing the Recall feature for its upcoming proper preview launch on Copilot Plus PCs.

Microsoft Windows' senior product manager, Brandon LeBlanc, confirmed in a statement (via The Verge) that the recent Recall AI uninstall feature is only a bug, and the company is now working on a fix to remove it. LeBlanc said that this option was "incorrectly listed" under the Features dialog box found in the Control Panel.

It was not revealed by Microsoft when this fix would arrive, but claimed that it is in an "upcoming update."

As per The Verge, there may not be an uninstall option coming for the Recall AI feature on Copilot+ PCs. However, its EU copies of Windows with Copilot+ may require having this option for users to fully remove it.

Recall AI to Still be a Mandatory Copilot Plus PC Feature

In this latest statement from Microsoft, the company may very well mean that Recall AI is still a mandatory feature that would ship out to Copilot+ PCs on Windows in the future. That being said, it will be launched by the Redmond software giant as a preview for Windows Insiders come October.

October is on the horizon, giving Microsoft only a month away before Recall AI's massive revamp, possibly a feature that would be warmly accepted by the public, unlike its disastrous beginnings.

Microsoft and its Controversial Windows Recall AI

Good and helpful ideas are not necessarily a smash hit for the public, and Microsoft suffered from this case when it first introduced an exclusive Copilot+ feature called Recall AI on Windows. Through this feature, Microsoft's AI will have the capability to keep track of user's activities, offering a contextual memory that takes screenshots of previously opened or searched files, conversations, and websites.

It almost immediately faced massive backlash from security experts, watchdogs, and the online community for its level of access to user files, one that would be an unavoidable feature on Copilot+. With these privacy concerns, Microsoft decided to remove Recall AI on Copilot+ PCs despite planning a June release, saying that it would revamp the experience and launch later.

After the entire privacy and security fiasco, Microsoft then unveiled that it is targeting an October launch for Recall AI, but it will initially be available as a preview for Windows Insiders.

Microsoft's recent update adds an uninstall option for Recall which was not meant to appear, and the company is now working on a fix, adding to the list of things it will change for the AI-powered computer memory.
