The access to lyrics on Spotify's Free account holders are now back after the company decided to put a cap on obtaining the song lines or singing along to it to three per month. This latest change came after almost three months of its wideimplementation of Spotify lyrics only accessible to users who pay for subscriptions under the Premium tiers.

Initially, Spotify saw heat from users on the Free account plan as they were able to access lyrics freely and without any limit before this rollout.

After almost a quarter of implementing its changes to lyrics access for Free accounts, Spotify now revealed to Engadget that the company is working on bringing back the experience to non-Premium users. This means that users no longer have to upgrade to Premium if they want to access more lyrics when streaming a song on its platform, contrary to its previous change.

Initially, Spotify tested this capped lyrics access for Free users in select regions which started in September 2023 and saw a full implementation in May of this year.

According to Spotify's statement, the return of wider lyrics access to Free users is coming over the next few weeks, with its return coming to non-paying accounts globally.

No Need for Premium Subscription for Lyrics

Before, users who were on Spotify Free could only get three song lyrics access per month, and trying to open it after using up one's complementary use would prompt an upgrade to Premium.

However, it was revealed by its CEO, Daniel Ek, that Free users will get more features to experience on the platform, with access to lyrics no longer requiring a Premium subscription.

Spotify and its Latest Changes in Streaming

For many years now, Spotify has been one of the top and go-to music streaming platforms in the world, with the Swedish streaming platform from Daniel Ek offering a massive library for users. Recently, it began testing its generative AI offer on the platform that can help create playlists based on user prompts, now available in its beta experiences.

Additionally, the iconic music streaming platform expanded more on its remote listening experiences with friends via the feature known as Spotify Jam. The most recent update expands the experience for desktop users allowing them to create or join listening parties with friends or mutuals on the platform, offering real-time streaming and the ability to add songs to the queue.

However, one of the most notorious changes for Spotify this year was its wave of price hikes on its subscription tiers, but this follows its addition of free Audiobook Credits for Premium users in select regions. Since September 2023's test and May 2024's implementation of capping lyrics access on Free accounts, Spotify brings it back with unlimited access again despite not paying for Premium.
