Instead of a system-generated or available playlist artwork on Apple Music, the future may offer generative AI developments that would allow users to create their own via Apple Intelligence. This was reportedly coming to iOS 18's update, with the eligible devices that can access Apple Intelligence capable of taking advantage of this generative AI feature. 

This was revealed to be part of a previously discovered feature of Apple Intelligence called the Image Playground, to soon be part of Apple Music. 

Apple Intelligence to Allow Creating New Playlist Artwork for Apple Music

The recent release of the iOS 18 beta 4 from Apple has led to discoveries on what Cupertino will soon offer for users, with 9to5Mac being able to dig from its code that Apple Music will soon allow users to create new playlist artworks. This feature would be accessible via iOS 18's Apple Intelligence which will bring this generative AI feature to Apple Music. 

It is known that iOS 17.1 previously offered users a way to customize playlist covers from its library but is only offering presets that differ in color.

But with iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence, users may be able to generate their preferred artwork or cover for a specific playlist that would match more of what it has to offer.

iOS 18's Image Playground to Soon Be Available on Apple Music

It was also revealed that iOS 18's Image Playground would be accessible on Apple Music to create these new playlist artworks, available under the 'Create Image' button when editing a playlist. Apple Intelligence's tech would fulfill this image generation capability for Apple Music through AI, but would only center on animations, illustrations, and sketches, and not on realistic images. 

Apple Music and Apple Intelligence Features for iOS 18

When rumors and speculations behind iOS 18's generative AI features first showed up, it talked about how it would deliver a significant upgrade for Apple Music and improve music streaming. One of the features rumored as early as last year for Cupertino's AI upgrade is Apple Music's capability to create a playlist using artificial intelligence but was not exactly confirmed by Apple.

The recent WWDC 2024 confirmed the arrival of Cupertino's first take on generative AI capabilities and technology, under the famed name known as Apple Intelligence. Via iOS 18, Apple Intelligence will deliver significant upgrades to existing features on iPhones, as well as iPads and Macs, centering mostly on new Writing Tools and multimedia outputs for users. 

It is also widely known that one of the first partners of Apple for this generative AI offers is OpenAI, particularly with the ChatGPT chatbot to soon be accessible via Siri and other apps. Apple Music was one of the top speculated apps that will receive generative AI capabilities via Apple Intelligence and iOS 18, with its first feature offering a way for users to create playlist artworks for their library.
