There are currently no ways to turn back time, but FiiO has since brought back renowned experiences of the past with its lineup of new retro technologies, now debuting the DM13, a modern CD player. This is a play on the popular Sony Discman, an old-school CD player that offers playing tunes on-the-go using wired earphones or headphones.
In this latest reboot from FiiO, the company is doubling down on retro tech after its reboot of the iconic Sony Walkman with its modern cassette player.
FiiO Unveils DM13 CD Player, Like Sony's Discman
FiiO unveiled its latest modern retro device for all music lovers in the world, with the new device called the DM13 resurrecting the CD players back to the modern world. According to a report from The Verge, the new CD player offers a "modern facelift" to the technology, but is still grounded in its capability to play your discs from purchased albums or burned from computers.
The DM13 pays homage to yet again another entertainment icon, the Sony Discman, but goes above and beyond its modern features like wireless Bluetooth support.
Of course, like its inspiration, DM13 also boasts of a portable CD music streaming experience and offers wired headphones or earphone listening via its 3.5mm standard and 4.4mm balanced audio jacks.
FiiO's DM13 Follows Its CP13 Cassette Player
The FiiO DM13 also offers a way to connect it to PCs, especially as modern CPUs and laptops no longer have disc ports, with its batteries bypassed and put in 'desktop mode' when connected. Wireless Bluetooth supports AptX, AptX HD, AptX Low Latency, and SBC codecs, and it is also compatible with AAC, MP3, FLAC, WAV, and WMA files via CD-R.
It will be available come September for $179.
The Rising Development of Retro Technology
Retro technology has been on the rise over the past years, and its presence is bringing back the good old days when life was simple, with the world not yet glued to its smartphone screens. Some companies deliver retro-inspired technology like Ayaneo who unveiled its Retro Mini PC which replicates the original Apple Mac, but only in its design as it is a modern computer.
However, others are focused on retro gaming, and this does not stop in finding pristine copies of games or restoring them for modern gaming platforms. The market is filled with retro gaming consoles for old and young players to enjoy, especially with the likes of Atari which offers its 2600+ retro console which can be plugged in via HDMI, and other offers from different companies.
May it be restored devices or new technology inspired by the developments that shaped the world, these experiences are for the soul and serve as a reminder of what the world once was. FiiO is among those who made it their mission to bring back retro entertainment, first starting with its CP13 cassette player, and now its DM13 which brings back CDs for music streaming with modern features.
