The latest from Nintendo is a Switch first-party accessory that offers a way to charge the Joy-Con controllers without the need to attach them to the console. This would be particularly beneficial for those who have extra Joy-Cons at hand and want to switch them from time to time, and this came at a time when the Switch is at its late life cycle stage.
Nintendo Announces a New Switch Joy-Con Charger
Nintendo of Europe announced via X that it is debuting a new Joy-Con charger for the current Switch console controllers that offers a way for gamers to replenish the batteries without attaching them to the gaming device. Previously, the only way to charge Joy-Cons was by attaching it to the Switch or buying a third-party accessory whichoffers a way to do so.
The new charger can also charge the wireless NES controllers for Switch Online, looking similar to the Switch Joy-Con grip accessory.
However, Nintendo only offers this to the Europe and Japan regions, coming this October.
Nintendo's New Accessory: Is Switch 2 Delayed?
Many claim that Nintendo's new accessory is seven years late, and while that is true, Ars Technica claimed that it is because there is a connection between this device to the Switch 2. There are no words regarding Switch 2's delay, with current speculations placing it at a March 2025 release, with this charging accessory to be important for the next-gen console as it would have magnetically-attaching Joy-Cons in the future.
Switch 2 will reportedly have backward compatibility, so do not throw away your old Joy-Cons as these may be compatible with the new console for specific games, and this new external charger would help keep it powered if one loses access to their previous Switch or if it dies.
Nintendo Switch and its Future
After seven years since Nintendo first released the Switch console, it remains the main gaming device of the Japanese gaming giant in the present, with new games and accessories still meant for this. Earlier this year, the mainline first-party release from Nintendo brought a massive drop with Princess Peach: Showtime, accompanied by new Pastel Pink Joy-Cons.
This was after numerous leaks and speculations regarding the successor of the Switch lineup that was originally slated for 2024 and pushed back to March 2025 according to reports.
The new Nintendo Switch will be the first sequel to the console after different variants appearing before it with the likesof Switch V1, Switch V2, Switch Lite, and the Switch OLED.
A collection of different first-party and third-party games was already rumored to be in development and is meant for the Switch 2, with the next device set to debut obvious changes with its present lineup. However, Nintendo's move is to deliver a new first-party accessory with its Joy-Con charger after seven years, suggesting that it would also be an applicable charger for the future.
