German car manufacturer, Porsche, has announced two new variants for the Macan EVs coming alongside its launch, with these new variants centering on a rear-wheel drive configuration. It was revealed by the company that both will be lighter versions of the first two all-electric Macan variants it initially announced, promising increased range for the RWD versions.

While it would lose a self-powered front axle with the RWD variants, Porsche claimed that it would not sacrifice its outputs and would still deliver massive performances for the electric SUV.

According to the latest press release from Porsche, two new rear-wheel drive variants of the Porsche Macan electric vehicles will soon join the existing availability of the clean energy SUV. Currently, there are the Porsche Macan 4 and Macan Turbo EVs that offer the all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration featuring the dual-motor setup.

However, for the new rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants, Porsche will only give a single-electric motor that will be installed on its rear axle.

These new variants would be the RWD all-electric Macan and the Macan 4S. Porsche claimed that the RWD Macan would feature the same 100kWh battery similar to the Macan 4 and Turbo but would be 243 lbs. lighter.

Porsche Macan EV RWD: Lighter with Increased Range

Both RWD versions of the Macan EV would be lighter as it will only have a single motor, with Porsche also guaranteeing an increased range, but did not yet disclose its EPA estimates.

The base RWD Macan EV will start at $77,295 while the Macan 4S will be available at a starting price of $86,895.

Porsche and Its Electric Vehicle Development

The electrification from Porsche may seem to have a slow start, as it only has the Taycan as its full-fledged electric vehicle in the market, but that does not mean it stopped with this model. The German car manufacturer has previously laid out its plans to deliver next-gen EVs from its renowned lineup, with the next-in-line being its all-electric Macan SUV

Additionally, the company has also focused on transforming its iconic vehicles to feature hybrid power that combines its iconic Boxer-type internal combustion engines with electric motors. The world-famous flat-six engine was previously paired with an electric motor on the Porsche 911 hybrid, the first clean energy development for the classic Carrera models.

The world's transportation is changing for the better and towards achieving net zero emissions with cars and other modes of mobility, and Porsche is among those working on this development. The all-electric Macan SUV now features four models to choose from, with its initial two all-wheel drive variants to be joined by the lightweight RWD models that promise increased range.
