The next-generation 2nm chips from Apple are meant for the iPhone 18 series that will arrive by 2026, with a renowned leaker disputing the recent reports and speculations about its next year's arrival. With this latest claim from the respected leaker, they suggest that next year's iPhone 17 series would not yet feature the smaller Silicon chips that Cupertino is developing.

In this latest forecast, TSMC's development of the next-gen 2nm chips would miss the iPhone 17's release, expected to drop by Fall 2025, based on its annual timeline.

A leaker known as "Mobile phone chip expert" recently revealed via China's social media, Weibo, that the 2nm chips' arrival to the tech industry would take place by the end of 2025, and it is meant for 2026's iPhone 18 series. This latest claim from the leaker claimed that a production capacity plan from TSMC revealed this timeline for the smaller processors from the renowned manufacturer.

Furthermore, the leaker said that the claims and reports behind the 2nm chip coming at an earlier date are "fake news," disputing the many claims from other renowned sources.

The report from 9to5Mac claimed that the likes of Financial Times, Digitimes, and TrendForce all corroborated a 2025 release date for the 2nm chip, on track for the iPhone 17 series.

The iPhone 17 Series Will Not See the 2nm SoC

The Weibo leaker clarified that the iPhone 17 series will not receive the 2nm System-on-Chip (SoC) from Apple and TSMC's development, as it would arrive by the end of 2025, missing the expected Fall season release of the smartphone lineup.

The said leaker is best known for their accurate predictions in the past, centering on the iPhone 14 Pro models getting the A16 chipset, as well as the 3nm chip development meant for Apple's AI servers.

Apple's Development of the Silicon Chips

Since the arrival of 2020's M1 chipset, the self-designed Silicon processors from Apple have seen a dramatic development where the company is looking to bring more power with the hardware getting smaller. Early speculations behind the M4 chips claim that it would be Apple's much-awaited 2nm semiconductors that are meant for 2025

However, this year's iPad Pro release debuted the M4 chips, and they are featuring the 3nm process from TSMC.

The 2nm chip development from TSMC dates back to 2022 when the manufacturing company reportedly began its production, and the same information claimed that it would be for 2025. That being said, this smaller processor is meant for both the future releases of the iPhone and Mac lineups.

However, there is still no official word from both Apple and TSMC regarding the 2nm processor's fate and timeline of release, with people relying on analyses, leaks, and speculations for the new chips. Yet this new word from a renowned leaker claimed that it is coming at a much later date, particularly for 2026's iPhone 18, skipping next year's iPhone 17 series entirely.
