Popular sleep-tracking app based on Pokemon, "Pokémon Sleep," has accumulated $100 million in revenue just a week shy of its first anniversary.
Pokémon Sleep Hits $100 Revenue in Less Than a Year
According to data from AppMagic (via Pocket Gamer), the bulk of Pokémon Sleep's revenue comes from Japan, where users have spent a remarkable $73 million since its launch on July 17, 2023.
Major markets have also contributed with the US users have contributed an additional $15 million, while Taiwan follows with $4 million.
Pokémon Sleep has also seen substantial user engagement, with 9.8 million downloads reported.
Japan accounts for 44% of the user base, with the United States and Taiwan making up 17% and 7%, respectively. This distribution highlights the app's global reach and significant user interest.
How to Use Pokémon Sleep
The Pokemon Company has announced its intention to investigate the new viral survival game "Palworld" and take appropriate measures against its developer Pocketpair.
Pokémon Sleep combines sleep tracking with the engaging gameplay Pokémon titles offer. Users can catch Pokémon based on their sleep patterns, with the app tracking up to two sleep sessions per day.
Players are scored based on their sleep duration, which contributes to a "sleep score." This score is then combined with a score from a Snorlax-themed minigame, which players can upgrade through in-app purchases.
Additionally, a premium pass offers various benefits, enhancing the overall experience for dedicated users.
Pocket Gamer tells us that special events within the app have driven significant revenue spikes. Notably, the Holiday 2023 event generated $4 million in just one week. Similarly, the Entei Research event saw a revenue increase to $3.8 million from $1.4 million the week prior.
These events, featuring popular Pokémon and exclusive rewards, keep the user base engaged and willing to spend on in-app purchases.
Does the App Work?
Beyond its financial success, Pokémon Sleep has had a real positive impact on users' sleep habits. A study conducted in Japan by LY Corporation found that users of the app increased their average sleep time by 26 minutes per night compared to the same period in 2022.
The average sleep duration for Japanese individuals aged 15 to 64 is approximately 7 hours and 22 minutes. Pokémon Sleep users exceeded this average by about 20 minutes, suggesting that the app encourages healthier sleep patterns.
Furthermore, Pokémon Sleep users demonstrated a proactive approach to improving their sleep quality. Search queries among users included inquiries into sleep-enhancing methods such as aromatherapy and techniques to induce sleep.
In contrast, a control group without the app showed minimal interest in such methods and only marginal changes in sleep duration from 2022 to 2023.
