Microsoft is boosting its popular word processing software with a new AI feature: "Personalization" profiles in Microsoft Copilot. This tool aims to tailor the AI writing assistant's responses to individual user preferences.

As first reported by MSPowerUser, this update is expected to roll out in July 2024.

New AI Feature for Microsoft Word

The new "Personalization" profiles will allow users to customize the way Copilot responds to their prompts, creating a more personalized and efficient experience.

According to Microsoft's roadmap (Feature ID: 380430), this feature will be generally available in July 2024.

The new personalized Copilot feature will be available to users subscribed to the Copilot Pro or Copilot for Microsoft 365 plans.

The Copilot Pro plan, priced at $20 per month, is more suited for personal use, while the Copilot for Microsoft 365 plan is tailored for businesses and organizations.

Both plans provide access to Copilot AI across all Microsoft 365 apps, with the exception of Teams, which remains exclusive to the Copilot for Microsoft 365 subscription.

How the Feature Works

Microsoft Copilot's capabilities are set to expand significantly with the new update.

The "Personalization" profiles will allow the AI to adapt to user preferences, interests, and other personal information, enhancing the overall user experience.

MSPowerUser notes that this level of customization is similar to the "Sound like me" feature found in Outlook, where the AI adapts to emulate the user's writing style.

In addition to these advancements, Copilot will integrate Bing search capabilities directly into the Word app. This means users can obtain web-based answers and information without leaving their documents, streamlining their workflow.

Here is Microsoft's official description of Copilot in Word: "(Copilot) can help you go from a blank page to a finished document in a fraction of the time it would take to compose text on your own. And while it may write exactly what you need, sometimes it may be 'usefully wrong,' thus giving you some helpful inspiration."

Related Developments: Team Copilot

In May, Microsoft introduced Team Copilot, an extension of the AI tool designed to assist teams, departments, and organizations.

Team Copilot aims to enhance productivity and streamline collaboration by automating time-consuming tasks such as managing meeting agendas, taking minutes, and facilitating group tasks.

Team Copilot can moderate meetings by summarizing key information for latecomers or for future reference. It also answers questions, creates and assigns tasks in Microsoft Planner, tracks deadlines, and notifies team members about their specific contributions.

These features will be available in preview later this year for users with a Microsoft 365 license.

In a related development, technology consulting giant Tech Mahindra has announced a collaboration with Microsoft to modernize workplace experiences using Copilot for Microsoft 365. This partnership will initially benefit over 1,200 of Tech Mahindra's customers and more than 10,000 employees across 15 locations.
