According to rumors, the next release on the renowned speaker lineup would be a HomePod with a display, but a recent discovery refers to it as Apple's new 'HomeAccessory.'
There is reason to believe that this new device would be the long-rumored HomePod that will receive an iPad-like display, expanding the wireless speaker's capabilities.
Since its release, the HomePod has been limited to a home Bluetooth speaker, also accessible via AirPlay, to bring a connected music experience for all.
Apple's HomePod with Display Called 'HomeAccessory' in Code
You may no longer need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with Apple's next-generation HomePod, as new rumors behind a version of it coming with a display popped up again. This time, it will be called the "HomeAccessory" according to a new backend code discovery by MacRumors, with it being the only device with this name in the previous devices of Apple.
It was noted by the report that the previous HomePods were given the identifier "AudioAccessory," with this latest discovery dubbing it as "HomeAccessory17,1."
Moreover, it is also notable that the "17" identifier was also recently discovered and regarded as the A18 chip of the iPhone 16 series, suggesting that it will receive the same silicon chipset.
Rumors on the iPad-Like Display for the HomePod
The new HomeAccessory is believed to be the HomePod's revamp, where it will receive an iPad-like display built on top of it, with the previous body of the renowned speaker remaining the same. It is unknown if this new HomePod with display will get the iPad's features, but it is believed that this device would help navigate the speaker better to play media.
HomePod's Massive Upgrade Speculations
Over the past year, there have been speculations and rumors that Apple will introduce a massive revamp to its HomePod devices, which will no longer feature an exclusive speaker device for users. This is because it will have a dedicated display on top of it, with Ming-Chi Kuo claiming that it will have a 7-inch display built on top of the typical HomePod body.
Kuo speculated that it would arrive sometime this 2024, debuting the next-generation HomePod for users, but this remains unconfirmed and without renders.
For now, it is believed that a second-generation HomePod Mini will no longer follow through after initial leaks, making the main HomePod the only speaker from Cupertino, the one coming with a new display.
With a massive revamp to the HomePod lineup, Apple wants to expand more of the experiences with the renowned wireless speaker that has since transformed into a lifestyle device. Having a display for the HomePod will broaden its usage, offering a tablet-like device atop it for improved controls and features, rumored to be a standalone device soon.
