During the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2024, Apple revealed new features for macOS Sequoia, which included an improved Game Porting Toolkit. Developers may port AAA Windows games to macOS with this application.
Game Porting Toolkit 2.0, to be released later this year, will support iOS and iPadOS, allowing games to run on Mac, iPhone, and iPad, according to Gadgets 360.
Developers may convert Windows DirectX visuals to macOS MetalFX with the Game Porting Toolkit. The upgraded toolkit will enable controllers and Spatial Audio utilizing compatible Apple accessories and speakers on iOS and iPadOS.
Despite its strong A15 Bionic processor, which equals the iPhone 13, Apple TV was not supported.
Developers may download macOS Sequoia beta to test the newest toolset. Game Porting Toolkit 2.0 will come alongside macOS Sequoia, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, and tvOS 18.
The same SDK supports game controllers, audio, and graphics, making it easy for macOS developers to convert their games to iOS. The iPhone's Haptic Engine can simulate gaming controller vibrations using the same API, per 9to5Mac.
Apple's platforms are more appealing to game creators since they can easily adapt their games to different devices. Apple's Game Porting Toolkit 2 is in developer beta. Both iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia will be launched this autumn.
iOS 18: Here's What to Expect
Meanwhile, tech fans await the upcoming iOS 18 which will bring updates to several features in Apple devices.
Apple's built-in Weather app will get major updates in iOS 18, improving climate tracking. This WWDC 2024 update aims to give more detailed and helpful weather information.
TechTimes reported that the iOS 18 upgrade will improve the Apple Weather app in two ways, making it more useful for iPhone users.
Repositioning the "feels like" temperature display is the first improvement. The "Feels Like" temperature display now appears at the top of the app, beneath the primary temperature measurement, providing consumers with a more realistic sense of actual conditions. Due to humidity and wind, the "feels like" temperature often differs from the actual temperature, helping users dress for the day.
Enhanced Accessibility
Moreover, iOS 18 will add accessibility features including eye tracking, media conversation, and music haptics.
Apple iOS 18 will let users manage their iPhone or iPad with their eyes, inspired by the Vision Pro. This function requires an iPhone 12 or iPhone SE 3rd generation.
Last year, Apple TV 4K released Enhance Speech to help customers understand TV and movie speech, even with loud music or sound effects. This year, iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will improve this function for the iPhone and iPad. An iPhone 11 or later is needed.
Apple Music, including music haptics, will be improved by iOS 18. This function pairs the iPhone's Taptic Engine to the song, tapping and vibrating in time. iPhone 12 or later will include music haptics.
