This announcement, made by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, comes as Threads approaches its first anniversary since its launch on July 5, 2023.
Meta Yet to Disclose Threads Daily User Numbers
Threads has shown impressive growth since its launch, driven primarily by its integration with Instagram.
The controversial shared account system between Threads and Instagram has played a crucial role in promoting the app, helping it attract a substantial user base. Despite Meta's history of launching standalone apps with mixed success, this strategy has been particularly effective.

While 175 million monthly active users is a remarkable achievement, it is worth noting that Meta has not disclosed daily user numbers for Threads. The Verge tells us that this omission suggests that while many users visit the app, not all have become regular users.
Latest Threads Features Enhancing User Experience
Meta has continuously introduced new features to Threads, aiming to enhance user engagement and experience. One of the notable additions is real-time sports updates, which debuted in March.
This feature lets users follow NBA games live, providing instant access to game scores and start times. This move is designed to inject real-time excitement into user feeds and increase engagement during live events.
In April, Threads rolled out several new features. The Hidden Words feature, similar to Instagram's content moderation tool, automatically filters offensive language and phrases across various sections of the app, including feeds, search results, profiles, and post responses.
Users can customize this feature by adding or removing words from their Hidden Words settings.
Additionally, Threads introduced real-time search results, initially available to a select number of users. This feature allows users to see the most recent posts and conversations, making it easier to find timely content.
Another significant addition is the 'Trending Now' topics feature, which highlights the platform's top conversations and trending content, further enriching the user experience.

Expanding Capabilities and User Control
May saw the launch of ThreadsDeck, a third-party content management platform that offers functionalities similar to Twitter's former TweetDeck. This platform provides users with new ways to manage and interact with Threads content, enhancing their overall experience on the app.
Meta also introduced several user control features in May. Users can now mute notifications from other users and follow accounts, helping them manage their interactions more effectively.
Moreover, a new privacy feature lets users control who can quote their posts, even if their account is public. These extended controls aim to provide users with peace of mind and a more tailored experience on the platform.
To combat misinformation, Threads launched a proprietary fact-checking tool. This feature allows third-party fact-checkers to review and rate false content directly on the platform, addressing growing concerns over spreading false information.
What's Next?
The Verge tells us that Meta has ambitious plans for Threads, including turning on ads sometime next year, with the potential to integrate with Instagram's existing ad system.
In June, Meta rolled out the Threads API, allowing third-party developers to integrate new functionalities directly into Threads. This API also provides analytics capabilities, giving developers access to metrics such as views, likes, replies, reposts, and quotes at both media and account levels.
