TikTok has been named the official entertainment partner for the inaugural Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This major esports event will run from July 3 to August 25, 2024, and is set to be the largest of its kind (via Arab News).

The partnership between TikTok and the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) was officially announced on Monday, July 1.

Mohammed Alnimer, Sales Director of the EWCF, stressed the potential of this partnership to "redefine esports content and entertainment for a broader audience."

Alnimer hailed TikTok's unique ability to engage authentically with esports communities worldwide and to support the athletes and clubs participating in the EWC.

Exclusive Content and Features Brought by TikTok

As part of this collaboration, TikTok will launch an Esports World Cup Hub within its app. This hub will feature exclusive content from the EWC's official broadcasters, teams, and players, providing comprehensive and immersive coverage throughout the event.

Fans can expect a variety of engaging content, including a weekly show with in-depth reports and news from the competition. The Esports World Cup will also create tailored content specifically for TikTok, encouraging collaborations with popular creators on the platform to bring fresh perspectives to the esports community.

To enhance the fan experience, TikTok has planned a series of interactive activities. TikTok LIVE will feature live broadcasts from the event, hosted by a diverse group of creators from around the world.

Additionally, custom icons and features exclusive to TikTok LIVE will be introduced for the EWC, offering fans unique and dynamic content.

Mohamed Harb, Head of Partnerships at TikTok MENA, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that TikTok aims to "shape the future of gaming content and fan engagement."

He highlighted the platform's priority to promote a shared appreciation for esports and to connect fans and players across different cultures and regions.

A Historic Event for Global Esports

The Esports World Cup, replacing Gamers8, is funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and promises to be a landmark event in the esports calendar.

The tournament will feature 22 events across 21 different video game titles, including popular games like Apex Legends, DOTA 2, Overwatch 2, and Fortnite. With a combined prize pool exceeding $60 million, it is set to be the largest in esports history.

The prize pool includes individual tournament rewards, team qualifications, most valuable player (MVP) awards, and the Club Championship, a cross-game competition that aggregates the results of all participating organizations to crown a Club Champion.
