The reported talks between Apple and Meta got a new update today, but sadly, it claimed that both Big Tech's supposed partnership is no longer happening for a supposed iOS 18 AI model integration. This was because the latest information about it claimed that Cupertino rejected Meta to be its partner in this venture and had done so before the recent report.
For now, OpenAI's GPT remains the only model available to access on Apple devices apart from Apple Intelligence and Siri.
Apple is No Longer Partnering with Meta on AI Models for iOS 18
A new Bloomberg report provides an update on yesterday's massive WSJ report that Apple and Meta were in talks for a possible partnership. It was regarded that Apple would not partner with Meta and is no longer in talks with the company regarding a possible integration of its AI developments into iOS 18.
This came after the weekend revelation that after OpenAI, Meta will join iOS 18 soon as another option to offer AI models that will help broaden more of the experience on Apple devices.
For OpenAI's case, Siri would recommend tapping into using its models to respond to the prompt and deliver content, apart from Apple Intelligence, which was supposedly a possibility for Llama.
Apple Reportedly Rejected Meta's Partnership
However, Bloomberg reported that Apple rejected this potential partnership with Meta several months ago. Cupertino claimed it had "no active plans" for this supposed integration. Moreover, this was because Apple disagrees with Meta's privacy policies behind its AI models, and it is known for stressing security for its users with Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence and OpenAI
The many months before WWDC 2024 came up saw various news and reports about Apple's possible partnership with OpenAI to deliver its renowned AI models to Cupertino devices. The reports claimed that these negotiations had been going on for some time already, with Apple and OpenAI resuming them back in April after testing ChatGPT on iOS 18's systems.
It was previously speculated that Apple would not develop its AI for this iOS 18 release and instead would rely heavily on OpenAI's GPT models, including the famed ChatGPT platform, to deliver this experience for its devices. There were no confirmations from either side regarding these wild speculations before, with differing reports from sources regarding what to expect from Apple.
Last June, it was finally confirmed that Apple will focus on Apple Intelligence to deliver its onboard and cloud-based AI features for users, alongside its renowned OpenAI model integration into iOS 18. Later, reports regarding a Meta partnership were taking place, but the latest update shuts down these speculations, with Apple not having any plans for Llama or anything from the social media company.
