Yahoo News App Relaunches With AI-Powered Personalized Feed

Yahoo News is relaunching its application with a new feed powered by the same artificial intelligence model behind Artifact, the personalized news app from Instagram co-founders Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom that was recently bought by Yahoo, as reported by the Verge.

Artifact's AI is set to launch in Yahoo News capable of curating news feeds and re-write inaccurate or misleading headlines. In particular, the new Yahoo News app will offer users a tailored news stream driven by AI based on their interests, and when a reader is in the mood for TL;DR, a feature called Key Takeaways can provide a bullet summary of an item.

Additional features of the Yahoo News app include Top articles, which will soon provide key takeaway summaries and highlight hot articles for users to read. Stories containing undesirable keywords can be blocked, and users can exclude specific publishers based on their preferences.

Additionally, Yahoo News will allow users to flag stuff like clickbait headlines and have AI rewrite it into something better, much like Artifact.

Yahoo's Artifact Acquisition

Yahoo saved Artifact from complete collapse by acquiring it for an undisclosed sum in April. A lack of promising investment markets was the reason for Artifact's decision to close a few months ago. Artifact entered a market where Meta's Threads and other fierce competitors were present, and after first releasing it as a basic news app, it seemed like a potential rival to Twitter.

Although Yahoo has not stated that it will fully restore Artifact's social functions, users can share article extracts with their friends via the new app. In addition, users can display badges for being avid readers to others and use the gamified "streak" feature.

A portion of the content that Yahoo is developing for the News app will also be included in the Yahoo News website homepage. The website now features a new layout that displays hot themes, offers personalized recommendations, and promotes the most recent news. Opt-in is the new homepage experience.

Yahoo's AI Integration

Yahoo Mail has also released new AI features for its desktop version to improve task management and email, demonstrating Yahoo's overall trend of integrating AI.

The AI-generated email summaries stand out the most since they are brief lists of suggested chores and actions presented in bullet points. These summaries are available under the newly created Priority Inbox tab. It prioritizes the most crucial emails on your storage by looking at the term itself.

Quick action buttons and AI-powered summaries have also been added to Yahoo Mail's inbox. These buttons let customers check in for flights, track packages straight from their email, and quickly add activities to their calendars. Additionally, the upgrade seeks to increase efficiency by decreasing the steps required to handle email-related operations.
