Apple is reportedly set to launch its annual back-to-school sale for university students in Canada and the United States soon based on the company's ads appearing on social networks.
Apple is promoting Macs to college and university students on Instagram through this ad, which shows a Back to School image and a message that reads: "Buy a Mac for university or college with education savings. Plus, get a gift card for up to $200."
The ad's screenshot comes from a Canadian user, and the price point implies that buyers will receive the same $150 discount in the US that Apple offered last year.
Clicking on the ad will reportedly take you to Apple's education page, but there is no mention of the back-to-school offer. Last year's back-to-school sale started on June 4, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman recently reported that the 2024 sale will not start until later this month.
During Apple's back-to-school sales, students receive a free Apple gift card when they purchase a Mac or an iPad. Last year, Apple offered US students up to $150 for Mac purchases and up to $100 for iPad purchases.
Apple Education Store
The rumored back-to-school sale comes just a few weeks after the Apple Education Store returned online. The shop allows qualifying students to purchase the company's famous apps and software for their devices.
That means that student discounts are back to be purchased separately on this new platform, and users will no longer be required to add them to their Apple device purchases and pay full price.
On the new website, Apple highlights the products available for students to purchase at a special discounted price, with a new campaign that offers more than what is for sale.
The biggest discounts are on Mac products, which can be as much as $125 less than their original prices. Other accessories like the Magic Keyboard or Apple Pencil are also available for less.
Google for Education
In January, Google showcased some of its AI tools for learning and teaching at the UK's Bett Ed-Tech Show. With more than 30 education tools announced then, Google said these will help address some of the most critical issues and opportunities in education today.
Google said it has been talking and working with millions of educators to understand better how to integrate AI technology into the classroom. These new tools' features included expanding the reading mode for Chrome browsers, modifying AI-powered suggestions in a class, and pairing with a sign language interpreter in Google Meet.
Google has been experimenting with AI tools in its consumer products, such as Gmail, Sheets, and Search. The company has already allowed teachers to add questions to a YouTube video for its Classroom assignment. However, Google said AI will soon help with suggestions for questions at different times.
