Storyblok Raises $80 Million to Expand Its AI-Enhanced Content Management System

The Austrian startup has plans to expand its business.

In today's digital landscape, content alone is not enough to maintain the longevity and beauty of a website. Expansion continues and companies are exploring social media platforms, apps, and AI-generated content.

Storyblok, a forward-thinking startup from Linz, Austria, is well-positioned to lead this charge. The company, which provides a "headless" content management system (CMS), has recently closed an impressive $80 million Series C funding round.

Storyblok's headless CMS is designed to offer a middle ground between rigid template-based platforms and those requiring extensive technical knowledge to build and maintain content stacks.

According to TechCrunch, this unique approach has attracted the attention of many, enabling the company to cater to both developers and non-technical users alike.

Expansion and Innovation Plans

The newly secured funds will fuel Storyblok's expansion into European and U.S. markets while enhancing its platform with new AI and automation tools. A notable innovation is the Ideation Room, a collaborative space where users can brainstorm and develop ideas, leveraging AI to refine and animate their content.

AI Integration with OpenAI Partnership

CEO and founder Dominik Angerer revealed that Storyblok is working with OpenAI to integrate generative AI into its platform. This collaboration aims to make the CMS more intuitive and potentially automate content creation, enhancing user experience.

Storyblok Users Keep on Growing

Storyblok's growth trajectory is remarkable. The company's user base has surged from 74,000 in 2022 to over 200,000 today. With a team of 240 employees, Storyblok is also looking to expand its workforce.

Angerer anticipates the company will achieve profitability by the end of 2025, tapping into a CMS market valued between $20 billion and $25 billion annually.

Leading the Series C Funding Round

The Series C round was led by new investor Brighton Park Capital, with participation from existing investors HV Capital, Mubadala Capital, 3VC, and firstminute capital. This substantial raise follows a $47 million Series B in 2022, bringing Storyblok's total funding to $138 million.

Diverse and Prestigious Clientele

Storyblok's CMS is used by high-profile clients such as Adidas, T-Mobile, Renault, and Oatly. The platform hosts around 250,000 active projects, showcasing its versatility and appeal across various industries.

The Role of AI in the Future of Content Creation

As generative AI continues to evolve, it raises questions about the future role of human creativity in content creation. Storyblok's mission has been to empower human creators, but its integration of AI tools signifies a shift toward a more automated future.

Kevin Magan of Brighton Park says that AI is becoming an integral part of application-level software, highlighting its importance in Storyblok's strategy.

Despite the challenges posed by the rise of AI, Storyblok continues to receive industry accolades. Recently, Newsweek named it one of America's Best Online Lenders. Additionally, Storyblok has joined Visa's fintech program and Nvidia's Inception program, both of which provide significant benefits and support for AI startups.

Storyblok's latest funding round marks a significant milestone in its journey to reshape content management.

By combining human creativity with advanced AI tools, the company is now ready to lead the next wave of digital content innovation. It's about time to weave a different take on handling CMS.
