Nvidia has officially demonstrated G-Assist, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that can guide users while playing games and even optimize computers for gaming.
According to reports, Project G-Assist is merely a tech demonstration. But even in its brief appearance, it offers a fantastic glimpse of how an AI assistant could eventually help customers navigate PC games and even build up ideal settings based on conversation inputs.
Nvidia announced the AI game assistant at Computex 2024. In a demonstration, Nvidia demonstrated G-Assist, answering queries about the next early-game weapon in "ARK: Survival Ascended" and where to get the resources to craft it.
The assistant can even comprehend what is happening on the screen while users use it, adjusting to how many skill points the player has, as it helps the player get through the game.
The AI assistant built into Nvidia hardware can also adjust and optimize PC settings. It can even provide charts showing the previous 60-second frame rates and PC latency. It may also examine a user's system and detect that, even though their monitor is capable of 240Hz, they only play at 60Hz.
Additionally, users can ask the assistant for advice on speeding up a game, meeting the 60 frames per second performance goal, or even overclocking their GPU.
Gaming Ventures of Nvidia
Nvidia is making progress in incorporating AI capabilities into gaming laptops in addition to the G-Assist project. According to reports, Nvidia and AMD plan to release laptops with AI Copilot Plus capabilities, utilizing Microsoft's most recent AI developments for Qualcomm-powered devices.
"RTX AI PC" laptops featuring GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs and power-efficient systems-on-a-chip intended for Windows 11 AI PC features will be released by brands like Asus and MSI.
When Copilot+ PC experiences become available, these laptops will receive a free update to include them. In addition, Nvidia plans to release an RTX AI Toolkit in June that consists of SDKs and tools for optimizing, deploying, and customizing models.
Rubin Platform of Nvidia
Nvidia's G-Assist presentation also coincides with the company's recent announcement of the launch of "Rubin," its next-generation AI chip platform.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced the launch date of the new chip family in 2026 during his keynote speech on Sunday at the Computex trade event, which was hosted at National Taiwan University in Taipei.
The Rubin platform is the most recent development in Nvidia's AI hardware. It includes new networking chips, central processor units (CPUs), and graphics processors (GPUs).
The next-generation GPUs and the new Versa CPU are meant to enable AI applications that require large bandwidth memory. Reputable producers like Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix will supply this memory.
Nvidia has introduced the Rubin platform as part of its mission to advance AI technology and satisfy the increasing demand for high-performance AI hardware.
Nvidia intends to preserve its leadership in the AI chip industry, which it now controls with an estimated 80% market share, by speeding up its release schedule from every two years to once a year. Regarding Nvidia's revised release timetable, Huang said the company now intends to introduce a new line of AI chips annually.
