Stellantis and Jeep did not hold back on their recent unveiling of the Wagoneer S, touting it as the first global battery electric vehicle (BEV) housed in a premium SUV body to initially launch in the US and Canada. It packs a significant spec sheet that is capable of handling both asphalt and trail.
Apart from this, Jeep also unveiled its rugged concept for the Wagoneer S, which it calls Trailhawk. This version is dedicated to off-road and centers on its 4xe development.
Jeep Wagoneer S Unveiled: First Global EV Coming Soon
Jeep launched its first global BEV earlier today, centering on the Wagoneer S under the renowned Wagoneer lineup, which saw electrification from the company as part of its EV plans. It offers 600 horsepower in its electric motor, with 617 lb.-ft. of torque that delivers a zero to 60 mph acceleration in 3.4 seconds.
According to Jeep, it can also deliver up to 300 miles of range on its full charge, with its 400V, 100kWh battery and a DC fast charger that promises 20 to 80 percent charge in 23 minutes. Its new Selec-Terrain traction system also features five drive modes: Auto, Eco, Sand, Snow, and Sport.
It will bring a Wagoneer S Launch Edition with a seven-slot illuminated grille, 20-inch wheels, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. The interior will deliver a 45-inch usable display, an interactive front passenger screen, and 19 speakers powered by a 1,200-watt McIntosh audio system.
The Wagoneer S would be available this fall, 2024, with a starting price of $71,995.
Jeep Wagoneer S Trailhawk Concept for Off-Road
Returning into the wilderness, Jeep also unveiled the Wagoneer S' Trailhawk concept, which is meant for rugged experiences and the off-road. It touts Jeep's 4xe technology, which adds a Rock Mode and an electronic rear-axle locker for drivers to turn on or off via the Selec-Terrain system.
It offers an octagonal steering wheel with a tactical-inspired grip, a cross-car grab bar for passengers, a modular cargo management system, and more for outdoor adventure needs.
Jeep's Electric Vehicle Development and Plans
In 2021, Jeep committed itself to the US electrification move. In its EV Day 2021, the company introduced its 4xe technology, offering the iconic 4x4 capabilities powered by electric motors for its zero-emission cars.
Fast-forward a year, and Jeep again announced another update to its electrification plans, with four electric vehicles coming by 2025 and pledging 50 percent of its lineup to be full-fledged EVs come 2030. So far, Jeep unveiled three models coming on or before 2025: the Jeep Recon, the Jeep Wagoneer S electric SUV for North America, and the Jeep Avenger for the EU.
Stellantis and Jeep's electrification plans are seeing their plans bloom, with the Wagoneer S among the firsts to be made available to the public, initially launching in the US and Canada later this year. However, this is a global BEV, and other countries will soon see its availability from Jeep, offering the premium electric SUV with top-notch features and performance and a possible Trailhawk concept following.
