More Powerful ASUS ROG Ally X to Arrive with Bigger Battery Capacity, 2 USB-C Ports: Leak

ASUS is making a better handheld device with ROG Ally X.

The world of handheld gaming is getting better, and ASUS is making sure of this with its leaked ROG Ally X, the next-gen portable console said to feature a more powerful performance.

Additionally, ASUS focuses on a bigger battery capacity for the handheld after initially facing scrutiny behind the original ROG Ally's poor battery performance.

Its PC handheld gaming device was regarded as one of the most powerful in the market now, but its battery and other issues upon launch were a big drawback for ASUS ROG.

revealed more intricate details behind the upcoming ROG Ally X (still an unofficial name), the next-generation portable gaming handheld from ASUS.

The report revealed that the ROG Ally X would be the more powerful and capable version of the handheld lineup. It will ship with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, which offers 8 Zen4 cores and 12 RDNA3 compute units.

However, the bigger battery is one of the most significant upgrades here. It was said to be twice the size of the old Ally and offer an 80 Wh battery pack for the new console.

The leak also revealed that it will now feature an additional USB-C port, offering two USB-C connections: a USB3.2 Type-C Gen 2 and a USB4 Type-C supporting PD3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4.

Additionally, it will add more memory to the console with 24GB of LPDDR5(X)-7500, 8GB more than the 2023 Ally's 16GB with higher bandwidth.

The ASUS ROG Ally X will be 70g heavier and thicker compared to the original one, with a 7-inch 120Hz FHD display, M.2 2280 SSD support, and a new Precision D-Pad for 5 million cycles.

ASUS's ROG Ally: Initial Problems

The world was excited when ASUS's Republic of Gamers (ROG) announced that they are diving into the handheld gaming console fiasco alongside Valve's Steam Deck, Nintendo's Switch, and its other rivals.

It was initially touted as the "Steam Deck Killer" as it looks to exceed the performance and capabilities of the Linux-based handheld, better in every way.

Upon its launch last year, it cost gamers as much as $699.99, with the company announcing the cheaper, so-called ROG Ally Z1 equipped with the AMD Z1 processor for only $599.99.

However, it was plagued with mixed reviews during its release, as while many praise the handheld gaming device's stellar performance and processes, it has a small battery that drains fast.

With two ROG Allys already in the market, ASUS is planning to unveil the next-generation portable console in June. The ASUS ROG Ally 'X' will be a better and improved version of its predecessor, hopefully ridding of the issues initially found with the original Ally.
