Google is bringing back the Nexus 5 smartphone to its Play Store much to the delight of the Nexus 5 fans. The device is available in 16GB and 32GB versions which are priced at $349 and $399, respectively. Shipping is said to be 1 to 2 business days.
Google has launched the Nexus 5 in 2013 and has ceased its production when it was succeeded by the Nexus 6. People who wanted to own the device needed to hunt for it on eBay and other retailing sites. This time, they don't have to search any further as the device is back in the Play Store for an undetermined period of time.
Apart from its category as a "limited offer" device, there are a number of reasons why it is good to grab the Nexus 5. Specs of the 5-inch device include a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, a RAM of 2GB, a display of 1920 x 1080 pixel, rear camera of 8MP, front camera of 1.3MP, battery of 2300mAh, and wireless charging support. It also has support for 4G LTE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
Even with today's standards, the Nexus 5 can still be regarded as a capable performer. It could also be a nice option for those who think that its successor, the Nexus 6, has a massive 6-inch screen that is way too much for them to handle.
The Nexus 5 is only available in one color which is black. Back in December, Google took down the red and white versions which may have no chance of a revival.
Just like any other device, the Nexus 5 has its own issues in the past. Back in November, we previously reported that some Nexus 5 users had problems connecting to Wi-Fi and noted the mysterious draining of the device's battery whenever the Wi-Fi was in use. The latter was explained by Google Engineer Trevor Johns who said that it was caused by the IRQ wakeup events which had an abnormally high number. The issue was reportedly fixed.
There's no information yet on when the device will remain available at the Google Play Store. Its successor, the 64 GB Nexus 6 is currently out of stock. However, the 32GB model is scheduled to ship by Feb. 6.
