A TikTok mom known as Paige shared her hot take on the many complaints against millennial parents who are always on their phones, even when important events in their lives are happening.

The creator went as far as to defend the said parents despite being on their smartphones, claiming that while they are always doing so, there are plenty of valid reasons for it.

Being a "Working Mom of 4" herself, the TikToker said that in a previous Taekwondo practice with her son, around 75 percent of the parents were on their devices.

However, most of the said parents are texting, and while they are not watching their kids, she said that the average parent of the present is asked to do a lot for their children, family, and work.

Most parents attending said events are still on-call from their work or business, citing one example where a parent is on their laptop, with others seen answering e-mails, calls, and other work-related activities.

Is It Wrong for Parents to Be On Their Phones?

While Paige admitted that it is a shame that parents miss out on what their kids are doing, it does not mean that they want that to be the case.

She also defended parents working remote jobs, as while they can attend those events physically, they are still working, as most of these activities start at around 3 p.m.

@sheisapaigeturner As parents, we need to be conscious of one and how we use our phones. However, a lot of the critique online specifically about parents being on their phone I could activities is likely missing the full picture. Many parents are multitasking. They are working while at basketball, they are ordering groceries while at dance practice. They are doing many things at one time and juggling all of it as soon as they can. #millennailmom #sportsmom #parentingadvice #socialmedia #workingmom #wfhmom #workingparent ♬ original sound - Paige

Paige even said that being physically present and attentive is "impossible," especially for those who are still bound to their work.

Screen Time Usage in the Smartphone Era

While smartphones are the top tech developments of the present era, they are also viewed as massive game changers in the world, with their ability to keep people connected to everything online.

That being said, a study from 2023 shared that the USA ranked 20th in phone addiction, a.k.a. their screen time numbers, with the Philippines, Brazil, and South Africa making up the top three, respectively.

Various platforms have already taken the matter into their own hands to offer new features that limit the app's use, urging users to set a specific time to use it and preventing them from continuing at a given time.

TikTok previously shared its app's daily screen time usage feature worldwide, giving users the option to set it at around 18 to 60 minutes to enjoy the app's features.

The TikTok mom's hot take explains that not all are doing so for entertainment purposes but also work or business-related reasons, defending their cases amidst the callouts from different people.
