YouTube TV’s Multiview Is Coming to Android Smartphones, Tablets—Pre-Selected Only

Multiview is coming, but there is no tweaking the streams.

The latest from Google's YouTube TV is that it is now sharing the Multiview experience with Android users and rolling out to devices, including smartphones and tablets.

With this arrival, it introduces users a way to enjoy their preferred sports streams in four mini windows right on their portable devices and is no longer limited to smart televisions.

However, this early stage of Android's YouTube TV Multiview also means it can only stream pre-selected content determined by the streaming platform.

YouTube TV for Android is now rolling out the Multiview feature, and users may now choose the feature on the Home page of the app on their smartphones and tablets, according to 9to5Google.

There is now a Multiview button on the YouTube TV for Android home page that directs users to the four-tile view streaming and allows them to choose the preferred content available.

The good thing is, that it would not matter which device a user will stream Multiview on, as long as it is updated to the latest YouTube TV version 8.17, it would be able to take advantage of the feature.

This is because Multiview is streamed directly from YouTube's servers and does not require one's hardware to create the experience for them.

Android's YouTube TV Multiview: Pre-Selected Content Only

However, Android's YouTube TV Multiview experience comes with several catches, and one of them is that it would only be able to stream pre-selected content, similar to the iOS version and the smart TV's early multiple stream run.

On the other hand, while Build a Multiview is not yet here, the report claimed that Multiview would only focus on sports content for now, adding to the fact that it is pre-selected.

YouTube TV's Famed Multiview Feature

Last January 2023, the first iteration of YouTube TV's Multiview feature was introduced by the company, promising that users could enjoy four games on one screen that would stream simultaneously on the app.

However, this only means that one game would play with audio, as highlighted by white, initially referred to as the split screen feature in four tiles.

It was initially available for NFL Sunday Ticket games only, but later, other leagues were added.

The Multiview feature came in March when YouTube TV raised its subscription prices for the platform, charging users as much as $73 monthly to enjoy the live channel experiences.

Since March of last year, Multiview was already accessible to its users, but it started with pre-selected content for streams and centered on sports only.

Later in its run, Google and YouTube TV introduced the customizable Multiview experience that would allow users to choose the streams to watch and also include non-sports content.

After initially releasing Multiview for iOS, YouTube TV's Android version is now getting the feature. Like the TV app, it will start with pre-selected sports content only before the custom experience.
