The eco-friendly substitute to Apple's leather cases, the FineWoven, is not reaching a year of availability from Cupertino, as it is reportedly getting canceled and removed from its stores soon.
This was because it has faced massive durability issues since its release last year alongside the iPhone 15 series, which affected the FineWoven iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands.
Various complaints were made about the FineWoven, with many buyers later returning the cases and bands from retail stores because of its problems.
Apple FineWoven Cases, Watch Bands to Soon Bid Farewell?
Renowned leaker, Kosutami, revealed on X that Apple is now moving on from FineWoven, and it is canceling the renewable accessories that were made available on the Apple Stores and retail shops.
The leaker further stated that it would soon be gone, with the company stopping all of its production lines, going as far as to say that it was already "removed."
The leaker also revealed that Apple will move on to a new kind of material, possibly another eco-friendly leather alternative.
FineWoven was said to cut carbon emissions significantly compared to leather's production and use.
Apple FineWoven's Durability Issues and Cancelation
PC Mag also regarded that specific reports on Amazon have led to the FineWoven being labeled as "frequently returned," with reviews claiming that it has durability issues and quickly collects dirt.
The cancelation centers on the FineWoven iPhone 15 cases and the Apple Watch bands, which are made of the same materials.
The FineWoven Era: Alternative to Apple Leather
Before Apple's Fall event in 2023, there were rumors and speculations about the phase-out of Cupertino's leather accessory developments, which included the iPhone case and Apple Watch bands.
This is because Apple was reportedly replacing it all with FineWoven, a new accessory made from recycled materials, which was initially also said to replace silicone.
However, only the leather cases were removed from Apple's accessories and sold on the platform.
During the event, Apple announced that leather accessories were gone and that the FineWoven era had entered. It was offered to the world as a substitute for leather, available for the iPhone 15 series and Apple Watch.
It was made from 68 percent post-consumer recycled materials, made to feel suedelike and replicate the smooth texture, and also made of microtwill.
It was not long until buyers found the issues with FineWoven accessories, saying that they easily get scruffed and scratched and it was also said to accumulate lots of dirt.
The effort and environmentally conscious move was there, but customers were unsatisfied with the FineWoven. New reports claim that it will soon be removed from stores.
