Disneyland's 'Autopia' Ride Facing Pressure from Activists, Advocates—Here's Why

Disney's decision for Autopia's electrification gets pressured.

The famed ride on Disneyland's Anaheim, California location, 'Autopia,' became the talk of the town earlier this month for its plans to electrify the experience. Still, several activist and advocate groups are pressuring for change now.

The park management planned that this electrification procedure for the internal combustion engine-powered (ICE) ride would take place in years, not immediately.

In this ramped-up pressure against Disney, the activists want the media conglomerate to commit to a fully electric experience on Autopia's rides.

Disneyland: Autopia Ride Electrification Faces Pressure Now

Disney is now under pressure from activists and advocates regarding their plans to transform its Autopia ride into a clean-energy one, according to Electrek. This was because Disney's statement was not concrete, regarded as a 'noncommittal' from the company, and may be wide on its claims last early April regarding the changes for the favorite attraction.

According to Disney, "electrification" is being considered for the Autopia ride, and electrification may mean many things in today's age.

It could be a fully-electric change or turning cars into hybrid vehicles that still feature a gas-powered engine, only seeing a minimal upgrade.

Tomorrowland's Autopia: Will it Go for Full-Electric or Hybrid?

That being said, the activists are now putting pressure on Disney to commit to a fully electric change for Tomorrowland's Autopia, mainly as it is touted as a futuristic experience, with the world currently on the verge of its electric transition.

Disney would have to reveal its plans for the Autopia ride, known for currently sporting four-stroke gas-powered engines from Honda for its operations.

US EV Transition: Electric and Electrified

The US EV transition is broad, and this means that automakers use specific terms regarding the many changes affecting their models and lineup to adhere to the country's clean energy plans. There is the term "electrified," and this is a term used by automakers who are turning ICEs into hybrid cars, one that is not fully committed to relying solely on its batteries.

On the other hand, there the fully-electric cars, otherwise known as EVs, focus more on battery-powered vehicles for all of their mobility and functional needs. Companies like Tesla, Ford, General Motors, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and more already offer these kinds of electric vehicles, relying solely on batteries, fully committed to the clean energy ideology.

The April announcement of Disneyland's monumental change for the Autopia ride is only a statement, and it is still not a sure thing what kind of electrification the company is planning for in the future of its cars.

With that, activists and advocates took it upon themselves to pressure Disney, one that would ensure the Autopia would soon be a fully-electric ride as part of the world's electrification change.
