Saturday Night Live turns 40 this year, and the iconic sketch comedy show is getting ready for its anniversary special airing on NBC Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. in a big way.
SNL will be releasing its very first mobile app on Feb. 12, USA Today has reported. The app will be available for free on iOS and Android devices. It sounds like it will have everything you could ever want in an app from SNL, including thousands of clips of sketches from every season of the show, new content and "custom-created" emoji.
Obviously, the emoji are the most exciting bit of news here, because emoji. So far, we know that the emoji will include a Conehead and a gift box with a hole cut out of it from Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg's digital short "Dick in a Box." USA Today has pictures. Emoji versions of Bill Hader's Stefon character, a cowbell and the Landshark should also be mandatory.
What's almost as exciting as this SNL emoji news is that NBC revealed the all-star lineup for its 40th anniversary special in two promos during last night's Super Bowl. The names were shown extremely quickly, so in case you didn't catch them, here are the SNL cast members returning to the show for the night: Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Jimmy Fallon, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Martin Short, Tina Fey, Molly Shannon, Mike Myers, Andy Samberg, Bill Murray, Amy Poehler, Dana Carvey, Kristen Wiig, Dan Aykroyd, Chris Rock, Garrett Morris, Maya Rudolph and Steve Martin.
As far as non-cast members go, these celebrities will also make an appearance: Emma Stone, Derek Jeter, Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Melissa McCarthy, Jerry Seinfeld, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Jim Carrey, Peyton Manning, Taylor Swift, Betty White, Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Paul Simon, Justin Timberlake and Christopher Walken.
SNL will also announce more guests in the coming days, according to TheWrap. Clearly, all of this is only the beginning of lots more awesomeness to come.
