The Walt Disney Company is planning a massive feature for Disney+, with reports claiming that it will bring a fast, cable-style streaming channel to the platform in the future.
The decision behind this move centers on urging users to spend more time on the platform instead of the users closing the app as soon as they finish a certain movie or episode.
It would be similar to what music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and others offer with their curated Stations, but with a less personal approach.
Disney+ to Bring FAST, Cable-Style Streaming Channel
Disney+'s new plan to further user retention and promote more app usage is to offer a cable-style streaming channel that would also center on a FAST (free, ad-supported streaming) experience.
It will center on the company's tentpole content, categorized by franchises, which include Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more.
The cable-style streaming channel only means that it will follow a content programming that it will develop for the streamers, one that would continuously run even when a movie or series episode ends.
It is one familiar book for Disney already because of its previous stint with Disney Channel on cable TV before it focused on the Disney+ streaming platform.
How Will It Benefit Disney+ in the Future?
The channels would ensure that Disney+ users never run out of things to watch, boosting the number of people tuned in to these channels. The report also claimed that Disney would sneak in a few ads along the way.
Through this, Disney+ would not only have its subscribers spend more time using the app, but it could also help in earning more revenue with the ads that come with it.
Disney+: What it Offers and Changes
Disney+ is best known for offering the best of Disney's animated shows, series, and movies, including its renowned franchises, such as Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more.
However, the most recent expansion to its offerings includes the Hulu merger, which brings both streaming platforms into one and offers users a massive library of both.
However, last year saw a significant move for Disney+, particularly with its move following Netflix's monumental policies centered on password-sharing crackdowns.
Initially, Disney+ effected this policy in Canada, but earlier this April, the company confirmed that anti-password sharing will soon start in selected regions, including the US, starting this June and completing in September for the world.
Among the top streaming platforms currently available is Disney+, which is closely following or on par with the largest one in the world, Netflix, with massive content offerings.
That being said, Disney+ still wants users to stay longer on the platform, and the move towards that is a cable-style streaming channel that will also offer ads centering on its tentpole franchises to deliver on specific ones.
