Last night's Super Bowl came down to one single play: a Patriots interception near the end of the fourth quarter. It turned the game on its head, and many believe that it wasn't New England that beat Seattle - no, Seattle beat Seattle. It was a gaff that will haunt the Seahawks until their next Super Bowl run, and something the Patriots will celebrate for months on end.
Of course, this is football, and the only people more passionate than the players themselves are the fans: it's not every day that you'll see a grown man leap from his seat, screaming into the sky and nearly passing out simply because someone scored a touchdown. On a similar note, it's just as rare to see a grown man drop to his knees in sorrow for the same reason - for many, this is the kind of moment that defines the NFL experience.
For others, this is the kind of moment that's perfect for YouTube, and some fans were captured in the act of reacting to football's grand theater. Just a warning: people lose themselves in such moments, and their language is usually not safe for work:
Half of these people seem as if they've been struck by lighting: the catch is made, and suddenly, people are jumping out of their seats. It's as if the Patriots had never won a Super Bowl before, like Tom Brady is still the rookie that took the team to a miraculous championship in 2002.
The other half is somewhat more divided: there are those that simply cannot comprehend why Seattle would throw the ball, and there are those that simply slump over in defeat. It's almost as if their very life force depended on whether or not the Seahawks won.
It only got worse for Seattle fans from there, and as always, Twitter was quick to make opinions on the end of the game known. Some were disappointed by their favorite team:
Some were good sports about a hard-fought victory:
And others got weird with it:
It all goes to show that, while many consider sports fans to be the 'normal' ones, in reality, they're just as weird as the rest of us. When all is said and done, however, the best reaction was Seattle's own Richard Sherman:
Maybe next year, guys.
