iPhone 16: Apple to Bring More Storage, RAM for AI Experiences

Going all in for AI needs all the power it can get for iPhone 16.

The upcoming smartphone from Apple, the iPhone 16, is reportedly getting additional storage and RAM to accommodate when AI arrives on the smartphone, offering an important power boost for the device.

Amidst the massive leaks on the anticipated iPhone 16, these latest additional performance boosts will help prepare for the upcoming smartphone AI developments.

It is known that Apple is planning to deliver its AI to its devices on the hardware and not via the cloud. These additional provisions, which aim to enhance the on-device experience, will be coming soon.

Apple to Bring More Storage, RAM for iPhone 16's AI

South Korean insider, Tech_Reve, shared new information about the iPhone 16's development, one that would see a slight boost in memory and a new base storage capacity for the device.

First, the analyst revealed that Apple would increase the RAM to 8GB to handle the on-device AI capabilities it plans to integrate into its devices. Apart from that, industry rumors are claiming that Cupertino will use NAND flash memory instead of RAM to carry out the load.

With this, Apple will also boost the base storage of the iPhone 16 to 256GB to enable it to run the on-device AI plans it has for this release.

However, while it is uncertain, Apple may go for the 256GB base storage and 8GB RAM with this release.

iPhone 16: AI On-Device with Performance Boost

Using NAND Flash would be a massive boost for the iPhone, as it cuts the cost per bit, increases the maximum capacity, and can retain data without power, which is ideal for its massive AI integration.

However, it remains unknown if Apple would go this route for iPhone 16's on-device AI, as according to the insider, the 265GB and 8GB memory would be enough to carry out this integration.

Apple's AI Developments and iPhone 16

Many expect Apple's iOS 18 update to deliver the first-ever generative AI found on its devices, particularly for eligible iPhones later this year.

This is because iOS 18 is touted as the "biggest update ever" in its history, focusing on significant developments, including the arrival of new AI features that may help it go against its rivals in the smartphone industry.

The iPhone 16 is also the next-in-line for this year, and it is already under speculation to bring massive AI developments including the highly requested revamp of Siri, speculated to feature generative capabilities.

Rumors have also claimed that it will sport either the A17 or A18 Bionic chips, offering a base 8GB memory, 2GB larger than last year's iPhone 15, and improved cameras.

The next iPhone is already expected to bring AI capabilities upon release, with the hardware itself featuring the latest technology on the market and Apple making it possible via iOS 18.

However, the operating system is not Apple's only preparation for the iPhone 16 to deliver its take on AI, as it will reportedly increase its memory and storage to handle the tech's arrival via a performance boost.
