Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door from the Nintendo GameCube system will return with enhanced graphics for Nintendo Switch in 2024!
Revealing Switch Release Dates
Commemorating Mario Day with a plethora of announcements, Nintendo unveiled that both titles, revamped for the Switch, are now up for pre-order on the Nintendo Store, priced at $60 each.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, which made its debut on the GameCube two decades ago, is slated to launch on May 23, boasting enhanced graphics and various improvements aimed at providing a smoother gaming experience.
On the other hand, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, formerly known as Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and originally released for the 3DS in 2013, will be available on June 27.
With these exciting releases, Engadget reported that Nintendo continues its tradition of bringing cherished classics to the Switch, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the debut of the first Luigi's Mansion title on the platform.
Collaborating with Lego, Nintendo also introduced three new Mario-themed Lego sets slated for release this year: the Bowser Express Train, King Boo's Haunted Mansion, and Battle with Roy at Peach's Castle. Additionally, fans can anticipate a Mario Kart set to launch in 2025.
Nintendo experienced a significant boost in sales last year, thanks in part to successful Japanese franchises like "One Piece." Despite a 6% drop in revenue, the company's net profit increased by 18% compared to the previous year.
Nintendo remains optimistic, raising its sales forecast for the Switch console to 15.5 million units by March. Between April and December 2023, Nintendo sold 13.74 million Switch units.
Super Mario Bros. Movie Sequel
Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination Entertainment, the creators behind the highly successful initial Super Mario Bros. film, have exciting news for fans: a sequel is in the works.
During the announcement, Miyamoto notably avoided labeling the film as Super Mario Bros. 2. Instead, he expressed a desire to expand the universe of Mario while keeping the storyline firmly rooted in the world of the original game.
The first Super Mario Bros. movie was a massive hit, raking in a whopping $146 million during its opening weekend and reaching an impressive global box office total of $1.36 billion. This success solidified its place as the second highest-grossing film of 2023.
While it outperformed popular movies like Oppenheimer and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in international earnings, it fell just shy of surpassing Barbie's impressive $1.44 billion in revenue.
Adding to the lineup of confirmed movies based on major Nintendo franchises, the announcement of a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie follows the revelation of a live-action Legend of Zelda film in November.
Although directed by Wes Ball and produced by Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto, some specifics about the upcoming movie are still under wraps.
