Meta Brings Edit to Instagram DMs, Like Facebook’s Messenger

Instagram now lets you edit sent DMs.

Meta brings a known feature to Instagram's direct messages (DMs), now offering the Edit button where users may tweak their messages if they sent them with a typographical error or inputting incorrect information. There would be no more need for users to unsend their messages if they only want to update the information or data they wish to communicate to their friends, families, mutuals, or followers.

Initially, Meta brought this renowned Edit feature for Facebook's Messenger app, and here, users may get the chance to tweak the sent message when using the updated app.

Meta Brings Edit Feature to Instagram DMs

A new blog post by Meta details the latest update to the Instagram app which delivers an important feature for users, centering on the Edit messages feature now available for all. Through this, users may select a message they want to edit, change the necessary information they wish to tweak, and have it available for their contact to see this revised version in the chatbox.

It is important to note that editing a message would only be available for the first 15 minutes after sending, and after this period elapsed, users may only delete them if there are still errors.

Alongside this, users may also see the pinned conversations at the top of their inbox under the Messaging tab, toggle on or off the read receipts, and new stickers and themes.

How to Edit Instagram DMs?

To edit a direct message on Instagram, users need to have the app updated to its latest version, if not automatically updated through your phone's settings, and head on over to the specific chat. Next, long-press the message you wish to edit and change the necessary details that are erroneous.

Lastly, click the check button to confirm the changes and have it tweaked for the recipient, having an "Edited" label on top.

Meta and Instagram

Recently, Meta worked on massive changes for Instagram and how to improve more of the platform for all ages, especially with the controversies the company is facing now.

In response to the complaints and hearings involving its platforms, Meta unveiled its new DM controls which bring stricter policies for teens on Facebook and Instagram to improve more of online safety.

Meta also brought the feature known as "Nighttime Nudges" which helps encourage better sleeping habits and reduces the use of Instagram during late hours. Through this feature, Instagram will notify a person using the app during the later hours of the night, offering them a reminder to go to sleep and continue their platform use after their sleep.

Various features on Instagram were introduced last year including the global Reels download feature, close friends for posts on the main feed, a new shopping feature on the platform in partnership with Amazon, and more. In this latest feature from Meta, Instagram's DMs get new experiences to enjoy for user's communication needs, with the Edit messages, pin chats, and more on this recent update.
