After two years of waiting, 2024 may finally bring the Apple iPhone SE 4 to the world, and this will center on the renowned budget smartphone lineup of the company to remove famed hardware that was made available for its entire lineup. In a new render released by reports, this new iPhone SE 4 would no longer feature a home button, foregoing its usual design.
It is known that the SE lineup uses old bodies of prior generation iPhones, with the SE 1 using the iPhone 5s' body, and the SE 2 and the SE 3 using the iPhone 8 body.
Apple iPhone SE 4 New Renders: No More Home Button
A report from 91mobiles shared the latest CAD files of the iPhone SE 4 which it recently obtained, and this confirms a new body for the device, one that will forego the home button. For the three generations of the SE platform, it featured a home button with Touch ID for its security feature, but in this next release by the company, it will finally feature a Face ID unlock.
Moreover, the Face ID may be used for various purposes like Passkeys, purchases, and other authentication features using one's biometrics.
It is finally moving past the iPhone 8 body, but it was not revealed what chassis would it use, akin to previous treatments for the SE devices, with the renowned home button-less design of Cupertino starting with the iPhone X.
The report claimed that the SE 4 would feature a 6.1-inch display with a notch and Face ID sensors, housed with the front camera.
Is the Apple iPhone SE 4 Coming This Year?
The iPhone SE 4 remains unknown as to when it would be available, but speculations are for 2025, no longer following the two-year intervals of its releases.
It is expected to bring a single rear camera and a flash sensor for the back and will measure 147.7 x 71.5 x 7.1 millimeters. Additionally, it features a USB-C charging port which follows the iPhone 15, but it is unknown if it will feature 5G.
Apple and its iPhone SE Lineup
It is important to note that when the SE 1st gen released, Apple was already on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in 2016, and last year, the company declared this first-gen budget smartphone a vintage product.
Two years ago, Apple released the latest iPhone SE, the third generation, and much to the surprise of many, this particular device still sported the iconic body of the iPhone 8, despite speculations that it would leave behind the home button. It came with the A15 Bionic Chip, and this particular chipset was delivered to the iPhone 13 lineup, alongside the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus devices.
While many reports and speculations expected a 2023 release of the device, many believe that it will be coming this year, 2024, as it follows a two-year gap between its releases since 2020's iPhone SE 2. For this year, it is time for the iPhone SE 4 to get a massive upgrade, with Apple fully leaving behind the home button on the iPhone platform, now sporting a Face ID unlock and USB-C, as part of its list of features.
