Users may now enjoy Video Spaces on X, a new feature that allows live video feeds to appear on the platform's renowned streaming feature, initially exclusive to audio. In this latest update, Video Spaces is available for X's iOS version only, with the Android and desktop browser versions still unavailable at present, but it is speculated to be a future release.
This new X feature would deliver a similar experience to Facebook and Instagram's live video streaming, but this would be available for the host only.
X Video Spaces Now Available, Livestreaming on iOS
According to content creator DogeDesigner via X, a new feature on the social media platform is now available, with the user dubbing it "Video Spaces," where users may opt to broadcast video on the audio streaming feature. However, it transcends the audio-only streaming experience of Spaces, which now makes it similar to the live streaming technology available to other websites.
To enable this feature, users only have to launch a Spaces broadcast on their respective X accounts, and before having it available, the customization page, where users may set the title and more, would have a new 'Enable Video' option to toggle the feed.
Here, users may preview their camera's broadcast before launching the Video Spaces to check their setup before making it available for their subscribers or followers.
Spaces: From Audio-Only to Allowing Video Streams
For now, the Video Spaces is exclusive to the iOS version of the X app, but it is reportedly coming to Android and browser platforms in the future. This makes the Spaces no longer an audio-only streaming experience where creators and personalities do a podcast-like live stream and more of a live video feed similar to other platforms.
Twitter Spaces and Audio-Only Streaming
Back during the pandemic, the world was crazy regarding one experience, and that is audio-only streaming, initially made available on Clubhouse, the previously invite-only app. However, other social media replicated this feature on their platforms, with Twitter (under its previous management) bringing the "Spaces" feature initially on iOS beta in 2021.
Spaces evolved for Twitter and X, as its renowned Twitter Blue (now X Premium) subscription offered several intuitive features that allow creators to enjoy more from the audio streaming they host. First, it allowed the monetization of Spaces, which centers on the content made later to access, alongside the Super Follow and Ticketed Spaces features available.
With X's rebrand, Spaces remained the audio-only streaming feature of social media, which continued to deliver various fixes, improvements, and new experiences. After around three years since its inception and audio-only features, Spaces is now featuring live video streaming on the platform called Video Spaces, where hosts may enable it to add more media to their stream.
