At first, Apple announced that the battery of the iPhone 15 would preserve 80% of its initial capacity after undergoing 500 full charge cycles. However, they have since verified that the iPhone 15 can uphold 80% of its capacity even after 1000 complete charge cycles.

There's a reason why turning off the iPhone 15 Pro ProMotion feature is not recommended to preserve your device's battery life.
Longer Lifespan Than Expected
Apple has revealed that the batteries in the iPhone 15 series have a longer lifespan than expected. Alongside updates to Battery Health settings in iOS 17.4, Apple has revised the battery cycle lifespan for both iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models.
Specifically, Apple has revised the battery cycle lifespan for both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models. Initially, it was stated that the iPhone 15's battery would maintain up to 80% of its original capacity after 500 complete charge cycles.
However, Apple has now disclosed to 9to5Mac that the iPhone 15 can retain 80% of its original capacity even after 1000 complete charge cycles. According to Apple, their testing process involved subjecting the battery to 1000 charge and discharge cycles, replicating typical usage scenarios.
The enhanced lifespan is attributed to ongoing advancements in battery components and power management systems developed by Apple over time. This extension in battery cycle longevity specifically applies to the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.
Previous Iterations
Earlier iterations of the iPhone are still rated to maintain 80% capacity after 500 complete charge cycles. However, Apple has also revealed that they are actively assessing the performance of older iPhone models.
As a reminder, Apple clarifies how it defines battery capacity in iPhones through its official website. Maximum battery capacity denotes the device's battery capacity compared to its original state when new.
Over time, the battery undergoes chemical aging, leading to decreased capacity and potentially fewer hours of usage per charge. Depending on the iPhone's manufacturing date and activation interval, the battery capacity may display as slightly less than 100%.
Users of iPhone 15 models can monitor their battery's charge cycle count through the Settings app. It's important to note that Apple does not offer battery cycle information for older iPhone models.
With the release of iOS 17.4, users will now find clearer indications of their iPhone battery's health status directly on the main Battery screen. Upon navigating to the "Battery" screen in Settings with iOS 17.4, users will notice two new sections: "Battery Health" and "Charging Optimization."
This layout provides a convenient overview of charging optimization settings and the current status of battery health, denoted as "normal." Users can easily access additional details by tapping on either setting as desired.
This marks the first instance where Apple offers users explicit information regarding their iPhone's battery health status. Unlike previous versions, where only the battery health percentage was displayed, this update provides users valuable context regarding their device's battery performance.
