Cuddle Con Is For Those Who Don’t Want To Spend Valentine’s Day Alone

Those who are in relationships can't wait to spend Valentine's Day with their significant other. But if you are single, then you don't have to spend it alone with a box of tissues, chocolates and a bottle of wine.

Ever see people holding a sign that says free hugs? Well imagine that on a larger scale.

Those looking for a snuggle on the day of love can head over to Cuddle Con, a convention for snuggling located in Portland, Oregon.

Cuddle Con was created by professional cuddler Samantha Hess, the owner of Portand's snuggling service Cuddle Up To Me. Similar to Comic Con where comic book and movie enthusiasts gather together to celebrate their fandom, Cuddle Con consists of a 12 hour event where people can receive platonic cuddles from other people.

"It's really all about people understanding the concept of platonic touch," Hess says. And don't worry, things won't get too touchy feely. "This event is completely platonic. It's like what would be appropriate in front of your grandmother."

Those attending the event have to complete a 30 minute consent class to avoid things going too far. There is also a strict no nudity policy.

Hess was inspired after reading an article about a man giving away hugs for $2 in 2013. And when she was offered to take over the Bossanvoa Ballroom during the day before a Valentine's dance, she couldn't resist holding the event for those needing a little loving.

"Valentine's Day can be one of the most difficult days of the year for someone who doesn't have somebody special in their life," she says. "And there aren't a lot of options you can go to where you feel safe and comfortable and connected to the people around you on that day."

Cuddle Con's main event is a two-and-a-half hour snuggle party, but there will be other events like dance lessons, couple massages, yoga, piggyback rides and pillow fights.

Couples, singles and groups of friends are all invited to the "most important event in cuddling history."
