One of the iPhone 15 Pro series' latest top features is the ability to capture Spatial Video, and in the recent confirmation from Meta, its Quest 3 can directly play this type of media on its mixed-reality headset. This is similar to what the Apple Vision Pro offers, with Meta ironically revealing this feature right before Cupertino's headset is dropping in stores and general availability.
Shot on iPhone spatial videos may be played in the Quest 3 and feature the AR and hologram experience that one would only expect from the Vision Pro.
Meta Quest 3 Brings Spatial Videos to Work Directly from the iPhone
Coming for the week of February 7, Meta is ushering in a new update that will bring Spatial Video support to the Quest 3 headset for direct playback and experience. The company said that users may bring the media directly to the wearable without any workarounds to access the clips captured using the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
Quest 3 users only need to upload the spatial video clips to the Quest mobile app, which will then be made accessible for the mixed-reality headset.
However, Meta said that it can only play and access a maximum of 20 minutes for this spatial video support, and for those without an iPhone 15 Pro series, there are sample clips available to explore.
Last December, Apple introduced a feature from the iPhone 15 Pro series to capture spatial video directly, and whenever going to the Camera's Video mode, tilting its landscape would have the "spatial video icon" appear. When Apple introduced the Vision Pro, it highly centered on the ability to view spatial video and bring users to a lifelike experience, now also available to the Quest 3.
Spatial Video, Computing: AR/VR Headset
Why get one reality when you can get two? This is what Apple's Vision Pro introduced last WWDC 2023 when it announced the first-ever wearable headset from the company, featuring augmented and virtual experiences. It has been a long wait from June 2023 to February 2024, but many are still looking forward to what the Vision Pro can deliver in its actual use.
First off, Apple said that it is a spatial computer that is packaged into a wearable headset that features high-definition cameras and ultra-resolution displays, offering a real-time experience to see the outside world. Moreover, one of its top features is tapping into the AR, especially with spatial video and images to explore.
On the other hand, Meta offers a similar experience but with less of the HD experiences from the premium wearable, but is not necessarily looking to rank against Apple.
Five months after Meta released the Quest 3 to the world, there are more features that it delivers and looks to bring, slowly incorporating mixed-reality features to the wearable. Before the Vision Pro releases, Meta wants the world to know that Quest 3 is evolving, now featuring support for spatial video playback from the iPhone.
