Stellantis' Peugeot brand is set to integrate popular AI chatbot ChatGPT into its cars. As reported by Reuters, this move follows similar initiatives by competitors Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz, signaling a broader industry trend toward leveraging advanced AI technology.
Implementation in All Peugeot Vehicles
Peugeot's Product Plan Director, Jerome Micheron, revealed the brand's ambitious plan during a media call. ChatGPT will soon be a standard feature in all Peugeot cars, including the highly anticipated new e-3008 model and small commercial vehicles.
The technology promises to connect seamlessly to vehicle controls, providing users with a sophisticated voice assistant capable of answering general and navigation-related questions.
To kick off this transformative integration, Peugeot is launching a pilot version of the ChatGPT service, with the activation made possible through over-the-air updates, in five countries - France, Britain, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
The goal is to familiarize users with the capabilities of ChatGPT and gather valuable feedback to refine the system further. The service is expected to become standard equipment across Peugeot's lineup later this year.
Accessed through the 'OK Peugeot' voice control system, ChatGPT can provide answers to specific questions, suggest landmarks, and guide drivers using the car's sat-nav system. The company calls this revamped feature a "true partner capable of answering countless questions and requests on any type of subject."
Industry AI Trends
Peugeot's move to integrate ChatGPT follows in the footsteps of Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, both of whom have recognized the potential of this AI technology in enhancing user experience.
Mercedes-Benz's MBUX vehicles initiated a trial in the United States, allowing drivers to use ChatGPT for natural responses and handling a variety of inquiries. Volkswagen is set to integrate ChatGPT into its voice assistant IDA by mid-year to facilitate interactive dialogue with drivers.
Warranty Program to Boost Confidence in EVs
Peugeot is not only revolutionizing in-car technology but also making strides in boosting customer confidence in electric vehicles (EVs), the company highlighted in a press release.
The brand introduces an industry-leading eight-year/100,000-mile (160,000 km) warranty program, named Peugeot Allure Care, exclusively for its electric vehicles. This comprehensive coverage encompasses the electric motor, charging system, powertrain, and various electrical and mechanical components.
Linda Jackson, Peugeot CEO, emphasized the importance of this warranty program at the E-Lion Day 2024 event. "We will be the first European brand to actually do this, and I think this is absolutely essential to assure our customers about Peugeot and everything we are offering in terms of electric vehicles," said Jackson (via Businesscar).
The extended warranty is designed to alleviate concerns and make the switch to electric vehicles stress-free for both private and business customers.
