Meta Quest Removes a Fan Favorite Feature, But Why?

This direct feature of headsets to other devices faces the ax.

A renowned and fan-favorite feature from Meta for the Quest experience is facing the ax, and this was reported by many users that it is already popping up on their headsets to no longer be available. There were no announcements made by the company, especially with the feature best known for being the top experience available for its users to expand more of their VR ventures.

Nevertheless, Meta is offering its users a different way of experiencing this removed feature, but in an awful and more complicated way.

Android Central reported that Meta Quest users have reported that the company has removed a feature that allows them to cast directly to Chromecast and Chromecast-enabled televisions starting now. While there were no official announcements from Meta regarding this change, users have claimed that they were no longer allowed to do so, with others digging deep into this issue.

Users got a message whenever casting directly to the service, with the company stating that "Chromecast is not fully supported with Meta Quest."

Technically, It is Still Available in the Quest

A new official documentation from Meta was also spotted, and this addresses the phone to other device casting features, originally meant for the Chromecast.

Here, Meta stated that users need to have the Quest smartphone app to still experience the casting features, asking that the phone, computer, and wearable headset be connected on the same WiFi network. It asks that users in a dual-band connection are on the same frequency.

After that, users need to login to the same Meta account across all devices.

Through this, users now need to cast to their phones via the Quest app and wait for a notification to cast in on larger displays, like TVs. According to Android Central, this also opens up the capability to cast to other devices like the Apple TV, Samsung, and more.

Meta Quest's Tech and Features

There have been many developments and new features that arrived on Meta's renowned VR and AR platform, the Quest, which centered on expanding more of what users can do inside the headset experience. One of the most iconic was from earlier this year where users no longer have to use the headset to download updates, as leaving it connected to the internet is enough.

Apart from that, there were many instances from Meta in its move towards improving the platform's experiences, centering on better connections for its online experiences. The company previously introduced the avatar customization tools also this 2023, alongside the unsend feature for its communications, as well as a teleport locomotion feature in Horizon Homes.

Features are coming in endless from the Meta Quest, and this has been the different experiences available for users to enjoy in the different iterations of the company's wearable platform. However, it recently removed the capability to cast directly on the Chromecast and the Chromecast-enabled TVs, now asking users to mirror it to the app first, and then connecting to televisions.
