Traditionally focused on pro-level audio devices like condenser microphones, Rode has strategically expanded its portfolio to tap into the growing demands of the streaming industry.
Solidifying Position in the Audio, Streaming Industry
In a significant development, RØDE Microphones LLC, a leading player in the audio device industry, has recently acquired its competitor, Mackie. Engadget reported that this solidified its position as a formidable force in both professional audio and the thriving streaming market.
This strategic move marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of the RØDE brand and positions its parent company, The Freedman Group, as a comprehensive pro-audio entity. The acquisition broadens the company's product portfolio.
RØDE now caters to a diverse range of audio needs in content creation, home and studio recording, broadcast, and live sound production. This acquisition not only signifies significant growth opportunities for RØDE Microphones LLC but also reflects their strategic investment in the future.
Over the past couple of years, the Australian company has been actively developing and manufacturing its second generation of RØDECaster Pro 2 mixing consoles and introducing a new RØDE Unify X sub-brand targeting the gaming market with products like the Streamer X console and USB microphones.
Acquiring Mackie
Forbes reported that Mackie, with a history dating back to 1989, has been a leading force in designing and manufacturing pro audio products, specializing in mixers and loudspeakers for home, studio, and stage applications.
Known for its 'built-like-a-tank' quality and affordability, Mackie has left a lasting impact with classics such as the 1602 and D8B mixers and SRM450 loudspeaker. The company continues to innovate with products like the ProFX series of compact mixers, the Thump series of powered loudspeakers, and the popular CR series of desktop production monitors.
The founder and chairman of the Freedman Group, Peter Freedman AM, expressed excitement about the acquisition, emphasizing Mackie's unparalleled live sound expertise. He highlighted the shared passion for innovation and customer-centric focus between RØDE and Mackie.
Freedman also expressed his admiration for Mackie as one of the noteworthy success stories in the pro audio industry. Drawing on personal experiences, he reflected on his background in live sound production, a passion that has been integral to his career since witnessing Tom Jones at the Chevron Hotel in Sydney as a child back in 1969.
Mackie's Response
Alex Nelson, Mackie's CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Peter, Damien, and the entire RØDE team. With a background in the audio industry, Nelson holds RØDE in high esteem, acknowledging their unparalleled manufacturing capability and technology leadership in pro audio.
Greg Mackie, the founder of Mackie and a revered figure in the audio industry, echoed similar sentiments, expressing his belief that there is no better company for Mackie to be associated with than RØDE.
