Nikola Tesla's Wardenclyffe Tower Burned, New Fundraiser Looks to Repair It

The Tesla Science Center, a.k.a. the Wardenclyffe Tower, will rise again.

The famed Wardenclyffe Tower over at Long Island, New York faced a massive fire that destroyed most of the flammable areas, and this facility is best known to be Nikola Tesla's laboratory for his renowned experiments.

It has recently achieved a breakthrough for the restoration efforts via a crowdfunding campaign but is now looking to raise additional funds via a new fundraising activity to repair the damages.

Nikola Tesla's Wardenclyffe Tower, now known as the Tesla Science Center, has recently faced a massive fire last November 21, and it was ruled out by authorities' investigation that it was due to arson. According to the recent press conference, over 100 firefighters from 17 different local departments responded to the incident, all helping extinguish the blazing incident.

The Wardenclyffe is best known for being made of bricks, as designed by Stanford White, and it is still standing until now. It was also regarded by project architect Mark Thaler that nothing was flammable in the laboratory to cause the fire, but its back buildings have wood-frame roofs that cover them.

It was also regarded that some elements had been destroyed, with considerable damage to its roof structure, chimney, cupola, steel girders, and portions of its wall. There were no casualties, but there was an injury to a fireman who fell from the ladder amidst the roaring incident.

With this, the nonprofit group behind the Tesla Science Center, which features the original lab, a museum, and an educational center, looks to rebuild the Wardenclyffe via a new Indiegogo-based fundraiser campaign called "Mission Rebuild."

Interested individuals, companies, and groups may donate via the platform, looking to raise as much as $3 million for its restoration.

Nikola Tesla and the Tesla Science Center

Back in 2012, there was a nonprofit group that crowdsourced enough funds to buy the renowned structure in Long Island, initially belonging to one of the most controversial scientists of his time, Nikola Tesla. During his career, Tesla was considered a "mad man" for the bizarre and unique inventions by the Serbian academic, for which he was criticized by others around him.

Called the Tesla Science Center, the group was initially seeing a hard time in raising funds to restore the facility, but it eventually saw significant donations from the public through their Indiegogo campaign. One of the most significant donations made was from Tesla (the automotive brand) CEO Elon Musk, to which he gave a whopping $1 million to help its restoration efforts.

Eccentric and innovative have been what many describe Nikola Tesla to be, but apart from his out-of-the-box invention, he was considered to be ahead of his time, especially with the wireless power transmission station. While tragedy struck the Tesla Science Center where it stands now, it is not forgotten, with a new fundraising campaign looking to rebuild what was lost in the recent fire.
