The mixed-reality headset market is expanding in 2024, and this is because of the latest patent approval granted to the South Korean tech giant in the United Kingdom, with "Samsung Glasses" coming soon. It centers on the highly anticipated wearable tech from Samsung, its first take on XR glasses which will usher in its return to this market after its Gear VR venture.
Apple may soon face a rival in the form of yet another Samsung device, with the Vision Pro taking the stage early this year, and reportedly, the Samsung Glasses much later.
Samsung Glasses Patent Approved, Coming Late 2024
A trademark recently approved earlier this November in the Intellectual Property Office in the United Kingdom unveils the name for the South Korean tech giant's take on wearables, called the "Samsung Glasses." This event is a significant one for Samsung as it received its patent approval and this signals the next step towards its development that is nearing its arrival.
It was reported by Android Central that the Samsung Glasses is reportedly slated for a late 2024 arrival, far from the Apple mixed-reality headset's early next year drop.
Moreover, it was regarded that Samsung is looking to drop as much as 30,000 units for its initial production, with more to deliver depending on the sales of its first round.

Samsung Glasses vs. the Apple Vision Pro
The Samsung Glasses is set to take the stage and face the highly-regarded and almost perfect Apple Vision Pro, and this is another classic rivalry between the top tech companies. While Apple centers on its renowned Silicon chip developed for its Vision Pro, Samsung is getting a hand from Qualcomm's supercharged XR chipset, something which is similar to its smartphone rivalry.
Samsung's Wearable Developments
Earlier this February, as Samsung delivered to the world its latest S23 and Book3 devices, its Galaxy Unpacked event also revealed a three-way collaboration that includes Google and Qualcomm. This is centering on the mixed-reality headset that the trio is developing, with Samsung reportedly centering on the device, Google for its XR OS, and Qualcomm for its processor.
However, there is trouble in paradise, as on Google's end, there have been challenges and difficulties that are reportedly pushing back on this development among the companies.
Not many updates were made for this joint development, especially with Google seeing various reports about its dwindling reality projects.
Still, this new report for Samsung signals a lot for its next year's product that would center on its take on the XR industry, offering a significant rival against its long-time competitor, Apple. By 2024, these companies are stepping into the world of mixed-reality and wearable headsets, with Samsung Glasses being its champion to face off against the powerful Vision Pro.
