ChatGPT Voice is Here, OpenAI Launches it for Free to All Users—Sounds Robotic?

Don't type, just talk with ChatGPT.

The latest offer from OpenAI is here, and this feature came amidst the massive controversy at the company, with it launching the ChatGPT Voice that comes as a free service for all. Before, the voice assistant that draws its content and power from its renowned large language model was under the premium subscription, but now launches widely for global users.

Not having to type and having an intelligent AI assistant answer you is a blast, not to mention the improvements OpenAI made with how it presents itself is one worthy tool in your arsenal.

OpenAI announced over at X, with its recent post centering on the renowned AI chatbot's conversational feature made available for free, and accessible to all users. This is the ChatGPT Voice, a version of ChatGPT that does not need text prompts to give its answer back to the users, with the person allowed to speak their mind or engage the chatbot via spoken conversations.

ChatGPT Voice was made available last September, but it was not made widely accessible for all, as it was still in its early phase and meant to try for premium users.

To access ChatGPT Voice, users need to download the dedicated ChatGPT app, also available for free and requires a user to log in via their OpenAI account.

Does ChatGPT Voice Sound Robotic?

ChatGPT Voice is built into the AI chatbot, and users only need to find the headphones icon to start this voice assistant feature, much like what users experience with Siri or Google Assistant, but this time, powered by the GPT LLM. It also offers a unique experience by using a voice that may sound like an average person, not the robotic-sounding ones that will make users feel they are talking to a computer or a robot.

OpenAI Controversy Now

The world has seen the abrupt termination of one of the most renowned CEOs of our time, and this is with Sam Altman and the recent happenings over at OpenAI. The co-founder was fired by the company's Board for several reasons, with one centering on his lack of clear communications, with OpenAI's recent post stating that the former executive was not "candid."

That being said, it is not over for Altman's career in the AI world as he was offered a position to work over at Microsoft's focus on AI developments. This also includes an offer for his co-founder and president, Greg Brockman, along with their team, with Satya Nadella publicly revealing this via X (formerly Twitter), to which the executives are glad to accept.

With all the happenings over at OpenAI, it was unprecedented that the company is still thinking about launching new features or services in its developments while it is dealing with the controversy, but here we are. ChatGPT Voice offers a unique integration of the renowned AI chatbot to heed users' spoken commands, questions, and more, offering a free tool for all to use straight from the app.
