Mortal Kombat 2 Movie Sees Karl Urban Confirmed Casting, Now Shooting

Karl Urban is now a blondie for his Johnny Cage character.

We are underway for Mortal Kombat 2, the sequel movie for 2021's release from Warner Bros. Pictures, with the live-action film adaptation now confirming the rumors of Karl Urban's casting. The renowned fan-favorite actor who was recently hyped for his iconic portrayal of Billy Butcher in Amazon's The Boys is set to play Johnny Cage in MK2, one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise.

Apart from this recent confirmation of Urban, the latest intel shows that Mortal Kombat 2 is also in its shooting, with the film's development soon expanding more of what it has to offer.

Mortal Kombat 2: Karl Urban Confirmed as Johnny Cage

A recent post by Karl Urban via Instagram has confirmed that he is part of the Mortal Kombat 2 cast, with the famed actor mentioning in his caption that this is indeed "MK 2." Urban also went on his way to tag recognizable cast members from the 2021 MK film reboot, with Ludi Lin who previously portrayed Liu Kang, and Mehcad Brooks who gave life to Jax Briggs.

Urban was speculated to play Johnny Cage, with the IMDb page for Mortal Kombat 2 also listing the actor to be part of the movie, rumored to play the character.

In the image he shared, Urban is seen sporting blonde-dyed hair, and it is a massive hint to the Mortal Kombat character who also sports golden locks.

Mortal Kombat 2 Shooting Is Now Underway

Apart from the confirmation of Urban's casting on Mortal Kombat 2, this also confirms that the sequel film is now in its shooting and production phase, with the movie well underway for its development. While other cast members that center on additional characters were also named, many are already waiting for what New Line Cinema, Warner Bros., and NetherRealm has to offer.

Mortal Kombat's Franchise

NetherRealm Studios is at a massive in the present because of the recent release of its Mortal Kombat 1 (the video game), which presents a reboot of the entire franchise, going back to its roots. It was originally speculated as Mortal Kombat 12, the sequel to its 2019-released game, but it took a different turn from NetherRealm and Warner Bros. which aims to refresh the experience.

That being said, 2019 also saw the original conception of its movie adaptation, a film reboot that would reintroduce the world to the Mortal Kombat franchise on the big screens. While Simon McQuiod directed the movie, he was joined by renowned cast and crew members, with James Wan serving as a producer, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and more.

Mortal Kombat's 2021 film adaptation saw mixed reviews from critics and the box office, but that does not stop Warner Bros. Pictures and NetherRealm from continuing the story of this beloved video game adaptation. Not only that, it is adding fresh faces to its production, with Karl Urban soon gearing up as Hollywood's beloved action star, Johnny Cage, with the movie sequel now shooting.
