Meta Says Threads Profile Can Now Be Deleted Without Removing Instagram

It gets easier now for Threads users.

Threads users can now delete their profiles without affecting their Instagram accounts. This highly anticipated feature, addressed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri in a recent Threads post, comes as a response to user feedback and resolves a longstanding entanglement issue.

Since Meta's launch of the Threads social network in July, it has seamlessly integrated with Instagram. However, users faced a dilemma as deleting their Threads profile meant losing their Instagram account as well.

The shared username and password across both networks created a hurdle for those wanting to disassociate from Threads while retaining their Instagram presence.

Recognizing the problem shortly after Threads' rollout, Mosseri acknowledged the inconvenience in a post just a day after launch. He assured users that Meta was exploring a solution to allow the deletion of Threads accounts separately. Five months later, the requested feature is now a reality.

How to Delete Your Threads Profile Easily

If you're done with Threads or want to take a break from it, you can now separately delete it without doing the same thing with your Instagram.

Previously, deactivating Threads was the sole method to disentangle from Instagram without affecting it. The new update simplifies the process.

According to IGN, users can navigate to their profile icon, select the double-line icon, go to Account, and then choose either Deactivate or Delete Profile. Opting for Delete Profile prompts a confirmation login and the final step, tapping "Delete Threads Profile."

Meta's Synergy Across Platforms

With Meta overseeing Threads, Instagram, and Facebook, users can now seamlessly view Threads posts on both Facebook and Instagram. To maintain separation, users can disable the option for Threads posts to be suggested on Instagram or Facebook.

While Threads experienced a dip in user growth and engagement during the summer, recent estimates place its user base at around 140 million. Meta continues to enhance features and respond to user demands, with ongoing requests including more profile personalization options, date/time stamps for posts, and a hashtag feature.

The ability for Threads users to delete profiles independently marks a significant step forward, providing greater flexibility and control over their online presence.

As the tech giant continues to refine its platform, user feedback remains a driving force for further improvements. It is essential to retain users in the long run.

For starters, here are the best Threads tips you should know soon. Don't forget to explore the other features in the app as you go along.

Up to now, many are wondering why they are seeing posts from people they don't follow. Maybe this will be the next problem that Meta will address in the future.
