The excitement is building as Apple's next-generation iPhones, the iPhone 16 series, approach their much-anticipated launch. Jeff Pu, a renowned Apple analyst specializing in the tech giant's supply chain, has shared some intriguing insights about these forthcoming devices.

In a recent research note from Haitong International Securities, Pu emphasized the incorporation of A18-branded chips in all the iPhone 16 models.

Apple's Shift Towards A18 Chips

As spotted by MacRumors via Pu's latest note, the A18 chips are expected to be manufactured using TSMC's second-generation 3nm process, known as "N3E." This cutting-edge process offers improved cost-effectiveness and yield compared to the previous "N3B" process.

As of now, Apple continues to explore advanced chip manufacturing to provide users with top-tier performance. If that is true, this significant improvement could spell that the Cupertino titan has plans to introduce the processors to the 2024 iPhone.

It's possible that this leap could mean that Apple is just dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what its devices can achieve.

Model-Wise Specification of iPhone 16

According to Pu, here's a breakdown of what you can expect from the iPhone 16 series:

  • iPhone 16: Equipped with the A18 chip (N3E).

  • iPhone 16 Plus: Featuring the A18 chip (N3E).

  • iPhone 16 Pro: Powered by the A18 Pro chip (N3E).

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: The flagship model with the A18 Pro chip (N3E)

A18 and A18 Pro Branding

While these revelations from Jeff Pu offer an exciting glimpse into Apple's plans, it's essential to remember that the iPhone 16 series is still nearly a year away from release. As such, the actual marketing names, whether A18 and A18 Pro or a different approach, will be confirmed by Apple closer to the launch.

Pu's insights, however, have often proven accurate, making these details a thrilling preview of what's to come in the next iPhone generation.

iPhone 16 Models Having A18 Does Not Make Sense

While it's still too early to admire Pu's "insider" talent, Apple Insider thinks that all iPhone 16 models having A18-branded chips makes no sense.

According to the tech outlet, the iPhone maker has already set the stage to bring two iPhone models for years.

To add to the report, Apple Insider believes that this trend won't stop and there's no reason for the company to halt it all of a sudden.

Another thing that the publication points out is Pu's track record. Based on the report, Pu's claims seem to be more skeptical than the claims coming from another analyst Ming-Chi Kuo or Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Speaking of Kuo, Tech Times reported last month that the iPhone 16 models will feature A17 bionic chips. This claim opposed Pu's rumor about the upcoming Apple handsets.
