An early rumor for the iPhone 16 has surfaced, and this centers on the 'Capture Button' which Apple will add to the smartphone, set to be one of the main features of the new smartphone series. This rumor is something that has some weight to it, first because Apple is known for adding the Action Button in the current iPhone 15 series, and second because it came from a renowned leaker.
iPhone 16 to Get a 'Capture Button' from Apple Next Year
A new report from MacRumors picked up on a rumor regarding the iPhone 16, and this would feature another physical addition to the device called the Capture Button. It was regarded that it is internally known as the "Project Nova," and is set to be one of the smartphone's main selling points come next year, when Apple brings the iPhone 16 series.
The Capture Button would be located on the right side of the iPhone 16 (if the screen is facing up), below the Power Button. It was said to be where the mmWave cutout would be, soon to be a capacitive button that obeys commands via force touch and haptics, not a mechanical one with moving parts.
The mmWave cutout would be located on the opposite side of the iPhone 16, below the Volume Buttons and Action Button.
For now, its feature or function is yet unknown.
iPhone 16 Rumors: Adding a New Physical Button
Considering that it is still in an early phase, the new physical button may or may not arrive, and it would depend on its initial testing phase internally. Capacitive buttons were available on the iPhone before, particularly with the SE's Home Button which has the Taptic Engine, something also expected from the Capture Button.
A new physical button would follow the iPhone 15's trends which brought the Action Button, a feature to be expected to launch alongside the iPhone 16's Capture Button, should the rumors be accurate.
Apple's Physical Buttons and iPhone 16
Apple has had physical buttons for the smartphone since the first generation and until now, but the iconic Home Button which users have various functions for bid its farewell last 2017 with the iPhone 8's release. That was at least for the regular iPhone lineup.
Back in March 2022, the world saw the latest iPhone SE from the company, and it is best known for featuring 5G connections to users. This is known as the third-generation iPhone SE, and it was housed in the body of the iPhone 8, still featuring the home button, and is best known as the budget version of the smartphone series.
When Apple introduced the iPhone 15, the dedicated Action Button was one of the most anticipated features as it was rumored to bring significant functions that replaced the long-used Mute Switch.
Now, a new rumor for the iPhone 16 has surfaced early on, with a Capture Button soon appearing for the smartphone to add to its list of physical buttons for the device. It would be a capacitive button that would not move up or down whenever pressed, making it more durable, with its features and functions yet unknown for this initial iteration of the device.
