Nintendo's veil of secrecy surrounding the long-anticipated Switch 2 remains unbroken, leaving fans to glean information from the ever-active community of leakers and tipsters.

The Big N remains private about the details of the upcoming console. Since then, the whole internet has become more intrigued as to what difference it can make aside from being a Switch successor.

Leaker Shares Switch 2's Release Date

A leaker known as SoldierDelta has taken center stage in recent leaks, unveiling information on the mysterious "NG," the codename for the Nintendo Switch 2.

As per SoldierDelta's revelation spotted by Wccftech, we may expect the Nintendo Switch 2 to grace the gaming world on September 24, 2024, with a secondary release window in November 2024 also on the horizon.

Are We Getting Two Models For Switch 2?

In a move reminiscent of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S strategy, Nintendo reportedly plans to launch the Nintendo Switch 2 in two distinct models.

According to Laptop Mag, the first, a digital-only variant, is expected to retail at $400, while the second model will support game cartridges and be available for $449.

While these price points represent an increase from the original Switch's $299 launch price, they allow the console to remain competitive in a market brimming with new handheld gaming devices, such as the Steam Deck, Aya Neo 2, and ROG Ally.

Nintendo Must Make the Big Move

The gaming industry has witnessed a surge in portable PC gaming devices, and Nintendo's upcoming release faces stiff competition.

If the Japanese gaming giant wants to thrive longer and stronger, the Nintendo Switch 2 must now strive to uphold its title as the world's premier handheld gaming device. However, formidable rivals emerge in the form of Apple and Samsung, both of which aspire to deliver console-level gaming experiences on their flagship smartphones.

It's no wonder that handheld gaming is evolving, with ever-increasing power and popularity. There should be no excuse for Nintendo to release Switch 2 that won't be able to compete with today's most powerful consoles.

If the rumors are true, we might see the next Switch running PS5-level games. Of course, the critics are keen to observe Nintendo's next move regarding this, since some people said that the current Switch is not capable of running games on a high note such as meme-worthy "Mortal Kombat I."

If Nintendo plans to raise the bar for gaming, the Switch 2 should have competitive features such as ray-tracing and more.

After all, players deserve a high-end console that's worth their money. Switch 2 could be the most expensive console of the company upon release so it should justify its value to its long-time fans and newcomers.
